Tuning questions on Husky 365XT
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:39:03 pm »
I have a 365XT that's been ported and MM and squish cut with a black unlimited coil also removed stops on carb screws so it can be tuned with screwdriver are splined  carb tool. I am running 32-1 oil mix question is I have a tech tach and have idle at 2700rpm but it fluctuates a couple of  hundred RPM is that normal and when setting max RPM should it hold steady at about 13400RPM are fluctuate a couple hundred RPM I believe I have a decent tune because it idles good and chain does not run and spools up without bogging you can roll the saw and it does not die are bog would you guys call it good? What should max RPM be set at can anybody in the Ohio give a guy a hand with tuning  it some pointers wife makes gourmet cookies and I can supply beer or some money for the teaching of the dark arts of tuning. I think I have it but what a seasoned ear to verify if I am doing it right I have the tools just need a little help and thanks.

Did not the person who made the modifications put a basic tune on the saw?

I have put a tach on some of my saws and a little bouncing around of the RPM is nothing to be concerned about.

The best way to tune is by ear with a non limiting coil.    Does the saw 4 stroke at WOP and then clean up when put in wood.

When I first got it, it had a issue with the chain running at idle tried to adjust it out but no luck so I had to pull oil pump and sand of the lip and readjust the carb I put the unlimited coil on it before I sanded the lip because I read somewhere it would help with idle chain running problem but it did not work but sanding the lip did. I was wondering what the max RPM should be set at I mean I could mail it to the guy that did the work but I want to learn to do it myself.

Have a read of the link below from Madsen's it will give a good basis to learn from. It is much better to have some basic understanding of how to tune a pro saw before attempting your first attempt at tuning.

Also being the saw is modified tuning it to factory RPM's is really no longer valid.   You need to learn what tuning by ear is all about.   Your saw is muffler modded and that makes it easier to hear.   Lots of people have learned by listening to videos on forums just like this one.

I down loaded Masdens tuning and that was what I used to tune with I can hear a saw 4 stroke on video but not as well when actually doing it if that even make sense. Want to get it sorted out before May shutdown when I will be doing twelve hour days 7 days a week for the whole month of may than going Back to school to get boiler license. If I can manage to make a video and uploaded while I am tuning it do you guys think you could help me further thanks .

A video would help us a lot

+1,    If you make a video make sure it is at WOT and hold the saw out of wood then in the wood and repeat that process several times so we can hear it.
