You can "read" the spark plug too. Make some good long cuts with it tuned where you think is good. Then pull the plug once it's cool enough. Brownish in color is good, gray or white and it's lean! The Madsen's link is a good place to learn what to listen for.

I'll help you when I get time. But right now I am buried. 

I wouldnt tune for max rpm myself for firewood cutting. Only for cookie cutting timed cut.

Firewood or real work, set 4 stroking and where it cleans up in wood.

Thanks Cutforfun_ I hear you about being buried I am doing the twelves and weekend thing and getting ready to go back to school in June to get my boiler license I'm doing a kind of double duty and working over to get my 1000 hours in the steam plant for the State. Really not looking forward to May because its mandatory 12 hour days 7days a week for the whole month. Thanks for the responses

With it being a modded strato charged motor, you will need to learn to read plug color also.
I can't set my 372 XT to four stroke at wot and then have it clear in the cut.
I tach it at 12,500 wot and the plug color is a nice brown/tan.
 But mine is a stock saw and your modded one may be different.
