Very late 70's - very early 80's

That black tag reads 1988 week 15 - so that's a 266xp.

The other one is a very early (1982) 266se, that is old enough to have a smaller carb than the late se and xp ones.

Of course that's about what the saws originally were, you never know what has been changed on older saws.  ;)

I believe there are issues getting enough clearance for the plug. There may also be some problems associated with top cover bolt placement.

That's what I believe as well, but I am no expert on those saws.

The idea of using parts from the 61 doesn't sound "right" to me, at least not if it is an white or black/grey top - but I don't know for sure. Those older 61s came with a too small carb for the 272 top end as well (same carbs as the early 266's).

Hopefully some real expert will turn up here, like Spike60?

i just realized theres two different top covers for the 266...... SE on the left,XP on the right. so maybe the XP cover it tall enough for the 272 cyl
