Title: Electric Comparison to Stihl 015 to 034
Post by: PharmrJohn on July 15, 2012, 07:26:35 pm
OK.....I have had three saws in my life.  A Stihl 015, 025(? --- I think) and currently an 034.  I do not require much power.  The 034 I have is overkill for what I need, which is occasional limb work around the property.  My problem is that I cannot pull start anything anymore.  Three herniated disks will complain at me relentlessly if I attempt such a feat.  My question:  I have to go electric now (or at the very least electric start).  The saw needs to be small enough for my wife to work (she is 5 foot nothin' and all of 105 lbs.).  An 015 would do me juuuusssst fine power wise.  What would be a good substitute for such a saw in the electric catagory?  Thank you in advance.  John.

Well this kind of poses a question not many of us are familiar with.

However Stihl offers I believe a model 180 which is a tad lighter than the 015 and most likely near the same power level .

FWIW the only electric chainsaws I've ever been around were one Skil we carried on the line truck when I worked for an electrical contractor and one residing in my departed fathers garage .Either one did okay considering how small they were .

That's about all I can add other than they always start and you don't need ear plugs .

Might take a look at the new wave of battery powered little saws out now too. IMO Oregon one is the only reasonably priced one and uses 3/8LP chain.
