Looking at IPL's . No crank stuffers on 545 either.
-
All the 545 power specs I can find over here state 2.5 kW/3.4 hp.

Looking at the spec sheet TK hung on 545 I think the 3.6 is a misprint :D :D :D. Because it says 2.5kW/3.6hp ::) ::)

;D Yep, I believe someone that knows everything said so on another forum...... ::)

Owner's manuals that come with the saws state 3.4 and 3.8 HP for the "new kids". Porting is different, but I suspect it has to do with the port covers as on the 365/372 XT's. (Not sure cause I haven't looked).
The saws share the same piston, carb, AT module and software program. Only the coils are different. Revboost is obviously one item, but there may be more to it.

Anyone ran the 550 step brother husky 545 yet?
-
mweba have you been in one yet? So far I am only coming up with missing crank stuffers and rev-boost.
Wondering about transfer covers and combustion chamber. Betting CC is the same though, if I was a betting man.

Haven't had one down yet. I did verify the caps to be different but have not verified that the cylinders are the same. Casting numbers are identical but Spike stated that husky says the combustion chamber is altered. I doubt anyone you would get to speak with at tech would even know.
Is one on the shelf, if I get time, will play with it.

As I have stated earlier, it proves nothing that the casting numbers are identical. Actually I suspect those only relate to the outside of the initial cast - even cylinders with different bore diametres sometimes have the same casting number.....

550 cylinder kit part number 577 76 47-01

Anyone tested one yet? I want to try and find one to compare to my stock 550 now.
-
Hopefully I will be getting a new 545 here pretty soon to break in and test with. I just want to see how the 545 stacks up to the 550 and NE 346 50cc saws. All stock.
545 differences we know for sure compared to 550.
1. transfer covers different, smaller looking (shallow) in pics.
2. no bells on the crankshaft (550 full circle sort of).
3. No rev boost in coil or software.
Anything else we know for sure?
We heard maybe port timing different and combustion chamber size might be different. ??? I am betting same cylinder shared with both saws with just different transfer covers like the 555 562.

I really like the looks of the 545. ;D

Put a 18" semi chisel 325 carlton on for now, so I could start and make some cuts with.
Will be changing over to 3/8 soon to test with 550xp and 346xp.
All I can say

Exactly what I believe, until proven wrong...
...and I don't think that will happen.

545 transfer covers have 1 different number at very end separated from rest. Look just like the 550 transfer cover from the outside thickness and all. 8)
It may not show it on paper specs. But I am betting the 545 on 1st tank will cut with or out cut a stock 50cc 346xp. ;)

Kevin, whats the price of a 545 down your way? How much less than the 550?
Retail for retail about a $100 difference unless onsale.
Better prices then these can be had though.
545 18" $470 shipped
550 18" $560 have seen with 16" $520 shipped

Best I was quoted here was $725 for a 550. No 545 at dealer yet. I can get Stihls for cost (a new 440 for $60 less than a 550) but the new Huskies are interesting.

Stihl pro saws are relatively cheap here, but it doesn't really help with the current selection of models. ;)

Pulled the 18" 325 set up off 545 today and put on the poulan 5020.
I then put a 16" 3/8 husqvarna bar and stihl rsc chain on the 545. The 545 likes the 3/8 just like the 550.

Dont forget to get a 16mm scrench for the new little plugs on these new saws. I did.
Just picked 2 up for me and 660mag.

The screnches come with the saw. If you didn't get one, they are still at the dealer with the service pack (allen wrench, bar tip greaser and something else?)

Yep. Just wasnt thinking of needing the stuff on 545 and didnt ask to make sure was in box. I seen the one that comes with them yesterday and they dont appear to be as long or deep as the ones I ordered.
The new 550 was on a trade half way across the state. Did get winter kit with it.
Even when I was buying the 346's local I told him no need for stuff from what I can remember.
-
Had the 545 out today. It was wearing a 60 DL X 16" X 3/8 Oregon CL square chain. Was a little lean at idle when first started.
Cut like mad in the green wood. The clutch could be stalled if you pressed down on the saw in a buried cut and the saw held very good rpm in the cuts if you let it do its thing.
I didn't intend to do any buried cuts but got roped into it by the neighbor across the street in making a stump chair for his wife. This was really work for a bigger chainsaw?
Eventually, the points were rounded on the square chain teeth and it wasn't lightning fast any more but stihl cut pretty good.
The 545 got a good workout. The temperature was probably 84 degrees? Humidity was like 99% and a thunder storm was nearly on us.
If the algorithms in the chainsaw computer are not adjusted properly now - they never will be?
Did a lot of "HOT STARTS" - no problem - one pull hot starts. Every time, I put the choke "ON" then "OFF" to set the fast idle then pushed in the compression release. "ONE PULL" and she was going again.
-
I used the 545 again today. First I sharpened the 3/8" square with a free hand file. Gassed and oiled the chainsaw
The 545 started up with a couple pulls with the choke on and then a couple with the choke off and away she went. No lean low speed or anything.
I cut up 4"-6" limbs to firewood length for a while and The 545 ran flawless from the beginning and remained that way. I'm a old guy so I got tired. The temperature was in the low 80's but the humidity was very high. I thought I'd get a bigger saw ready to noodle some of the crotches . . . .
Checked my chain. Looking at the chain, There was little detectable evidence that it had dulled any today. I opened the gullets a little and resharpened the chain and then checked the rakers. I found a couple rakers that were marginally high. The chain is a 3/8" LGX that I made square - first with a Atop and later I ran it through the square grinder. This time I thought I would resharpen it with a file to compare the effort compared to round filing. Square sharpens up as easy as round chain is my conclusion.
I then went on to one of my 365's and touched up the round chain and gassed and oiled this chainsaw as well to. Then company came and that was the end of the chainsaws. Oh well . . . The crotches will be some other day.

Randy settles it.
The husqvarna 545 and 550xp has the same transfer covers and port timing in cylinders, even though different numbers listed.
Thanks Randy for comparing both cylinders.
Randy said he used a jonsered 2252 and not a 545 cylinder.
Mastermind = Absolutely no difference in the cylinders or transfer covers. I've checked them side by side.
100% sure. Same port timing, same transfer covers. I was told that the transfer covers were different. That's the reason I got the 550XP top delivered to me. But after careful mapping and examination there were no differences anywhere.
Is it possible that the 2252 is different than the 545? I've never compared the 545.
-
2252 545 are the same part numbers. ;)

Cant remember off hand. Will check and see if sticker still on it.
Jim you know off hand or see sticker on the one you got?
Oh also works for the weed eater spark plugs.
-
The ones we go were not from Husqvarna. We went by the spark plug and bar nut sizes. seems like 5/8" X 1/2" without going out to measure?
-
Well I've been kicking around the idea of getting another saw, 543xp or a 550xp. I think I'll just get a 545. ;D
-
545 to your door PHO used to be $400 last year.

According to a recent post on the AS by Randy (Mastermind) the top ends are exactly the same, despite the part numbers are different? ???

That ignition coil for the 550XP costs $61
Don't forget the full circle crank adapter as a difference too.

Of course, but that isn't what the confusion is about - it is about the cylinder, or rather the transfer covers.
-
I have both saws and early on took the covers off and compared numbers. The casting number on the transfers are the same
-

Looks like the different part numbers on the complete assamblys is a deception then, as all the other part numbers are the same?
That brings us back to the coils and the crank stuffers being the only real differences - and maybe the software? Does that really make sense? ???
-
Yes for they are both very nice chainsaws.
I forget now the exact number (545) but the 545 goes into coil limitation at 13500 and the 550XP at 14000
-
Of course it really is about how they chose to make the power output lower on the non-xp version, not at all about making the output of the xp as high as possible - as usual.
It is a bit odd that they did it in a different way on the 50cc saws than they did on the very similar 60cc ones though - and that the part numbers are different on the same cylinder/transfer covers.
