Title: oiler hose issue
Post by: Remington on August 28, 2012, 11:02:14 pm
I never opened a saw before and I just tore this down in 5 minutes and a couple of broken tiny aquarium
hoses fell out, and the oiler trigger seems to have a nozzle with no hose on it.

Do you guys think this is important and the two are related, the hose is broken in several pieces but the main oiler hose is fine and the oil went down during use so it must be working. what the hell is this little brown hose for ?

What Remington model number?   I will try and find a IPL to post.

Thanks a lot but I just figured it out in the last hour or two and I am re assembling now.

I had it all wrong, the broken hose is vital to the oiler as it is the main hose going to the chain, and the other hoses are for the pressure and filter up. So the only broken piece turned out to be a non proprietary hose about 6 inches. It was dried and brittle and only had a copper nipple in it.

I'll reply back to say if the thing is oiling or not after I'm done.

BTW the model is a 860AV and I have the original manual. Good luck finding anything on it, the manual appears to be written in '78 and revised in '81..

It's pretty generic but it is Remington 860 IPL and service manual.  http://web.ebscohost.com/serrc/pdf?sid=1bed7515-dce1-4115-85a7-be31d9dd84ef%40sessionmgr12&vid=6&hid=13

Some pics I found.  I think Al Smith has a few Remington saws  similar to these.

All fixed up and tuned up and the oiler works now. Thanks for the manual. I have a similar one.

And now for the glory shot

I just tore it down and cleaned it up. It wasn't so nice when I first got it.  I don't know what the other Remingtons or any saw is like because this is my first one, but man does it cut good. It rips through a 12" log
in seconds and that was before the oiler was working.
