A larger (44cc) version of the plastic cased 40, both based on the P400 design. There also was a 48.7cc version, called the 49.
Other saws in the "family" were the P410, 460, 490 and 510, and the Jred 2041, 2045 and 2050.

They were one of the better homeowner saws.

Yes.

revive! :-*
noticed the 40/45/49 share most of the parts for the 2040/2045/2050. is there anything that can be done to them like the husky 345/jonny 2145 being able to convert them over to a 346 top end?

You'd have to make a 350/2150 style riser block (to bolt the cylinder to) in order for it to work.

What Aaron said.
Here is what I had ask and learned about the husqvarna 345 340 when I was thinking about buying some cheap and converting them to 346. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-345/msg14216/#msg14216

I was hoping there was one of them adapters like from the 350 :'(
don't really want to do any machining, just want to drop in parts. the saw is in very good shape and runs fantastic. but the piston is scored up and was thinking.....
maybe i'll just throw on the 2050 cylinder and piston kit. :-*
thanks for ruining my day Aaron! ;D

Yes, and the stroke is 32mm vs. 32.5 on the 346xp, 350 etc.
