Title: 254xp flywheel help
Post by: Jim372xp on October 12, 2012, 07:22:51 pm
Hi, new to the forum and i need some help . I am repairing a friends Husky 254xp but the cast-in key has sheared off. I've trawled the web in the UK where i live and found a secondhand one but this is off a 154se and does not fit properly to my annoyance  >:( as the company i bought it from said it would fit >:(. Can anyone help me get the right one i need or is there a compatible one off any other make/model that will fit or am i going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new one at around £125. Your help gladly received. Flywheel p/n 5035294-01 , model 254xp, year 1997.

Many thanks

Jim

At that kind of money, I would clean the shaft and flywheel hub good and assemble it aligned on the key way.

The key is supposed to be for alignment at assembly.

No need to replace flywheel just because  of molded keyway sheering off. I have run saws with out molded keyways and removed keyways on my own.

Just make sure crank is clean and flywheel is clean at mating surfaces. Use permanent marker to make aligning marks. Slide flywheel on tight by hand and then give flywheel nut quick taps to tighten or however you do it with air etc. All while making sure lines still line up.
Crankshaft and flywheel should be tapered at mating surfaces and they hold fine in my experiences.

Never had a 245xp flywheel off though.

There is at least 2-3 coils that will not match 100% if you mix the wheels for them.
You will need correct coil to correct wheel on correct crank.

Thanks for the advice . i have cleaned the flywheel center and crankshaft ,marked with a permanent marker where the key was and reassembled and re -tightened the nut and run the saw . The saw runs fine so will remember to do this next time if i have the same problem   :).

Thanks
