Well I finally got to put a little real time on my 026.
Myself & 9 other guys from our church flew 300 air miles to a remote bible camp on the Yukon River to help them get their winter firewood supply.
They go through about 140 cords a year & had had maybe 5 cords in camp.
We split up into 2 crews. The team I was on had 3 guys cutting & 2 guys stacking most of the time, & we wre working the hilsides cutting dead spruce. A BIG tree here is 20" on the but, but most of those are only about 30-40' tall with limbs like a porcupine clear to the ground. Some of the smaller syuff had a little height to it (growing in better places) but even those were about 50' max to a 3" top. In about 4 days of cutting we figured we cut & stacked about 35 cord (we felt that was a very conservative figure, it could quite posibly be 40+). The other crew figured they did about the same in green birch. The dry spruce & wet birch mixed together make a fire that will last & has some heat.
Back to the 026.
I was very happy with the saw. It's been running a little rich on the top & I've left it that way, but may lean it a tad. Just guessing but I think I'm getting 11,000-11,500 on the top end. Blubbers till you get the bar deep in some solid wood & then cleans up & pulls nice.
Was running 3/8 full comp chisel filed round.
Only complaints: Aircleaner (summer felt version) needed constant cleaning (about every other tank of fuel). The fuel tank is WAY too small!! I'm not used to fueling so often.
I have never run this small a saw for any length of time, but I really like the power to weight ratio.

I run 3/8 X 16" on mine.
You are not too rich if it cleans up in the cut.

I know better a little rich than a little lean, but she has to have substantional wood to sink her teeth into to clean up. In little stuff it hardly ever does. I don't have a tach but next week I'll be in at the Stihl dealer to pick up bar & mix oil & get a new air filter so I think I might have them stick a tach on it & set the carb.

I just put the new type air filter on mine it's a metal mesh (like) I cut about a cord with it and I like it didn't have to clean it yet
It sure isn't like my 261 on fuel but it's ok in my book ;D

I don't think I'd run my saw as rich. As you progress the air cleaner dirtying and it gets richer. For a days work I usually pop the cover and tap the filter and blow out what I can without removing the filter until the end of the day. I would want it to clear and not burble even in small cuts. Probably some of the reason a tank of fuel doesn't last. A 7 tooth .325 sprocket gets poor fuel economy on an 026 also. My favorite on an 026 is 16" 3/8 bar but if I didn't have a bigger saw a 20" would be on it mostly. With .325 pitch I prefer an 8 tooth sprocket. Maintaining the air filter is quick and easy enough that I'd rather do it and keep using an 026 as I find my back likes the handling better then most the others I use and used and I trust their reliability more to based on my experience.
