Title: John Deere 66SV Echo 610 twin
Post by: Cut4fun on October 21, 2012, 07:44:25 pm
Just sharing some pics of a clean JD 66 twin.

Guess it is a echo 610 twin that some guys go nuts over except this one is in the even rarer yellow JD colors.   Just seems this area is abundant with these darn things.

Couple more shots. Looks like someone put the banana nose bar on upside down.  :D

I've been passing on the little echo 610 twin over the years at very good prices. Some $150. Also been passing on these JD colored ones that I like the looks of best.

I had the chance to run Mark's echo twin at the gtg and have to  say a very smooth in the cut 60cc saw.   8)
Mark stated he gave $75 for this twin.

The log I was cutting in was a little punky and I  should have went to a new fresh stick.  Thats my bad.
Brad I think ran it in better wood.

I ran that Echo twin some and I thought it was smooth and quiet. It was not heavy and underpowered like people sometimes comment. They must have never run one?

Nice saw !!!

A 610 will be my next project, still in the box but disassembled.

Already available from $150 ? I think I should get a 2nd for parts then ;-)
Back in my days it was much more  ::)

Very complex saw though, like a kind of concept study. To me it looks like it could never be competitive in a professional context!
The matter is, that they had to double too much things. 2 pistons, two rods, two coils, this all ads up in weight.
And with just 2 x 30cc, they never get real credit for it.
The cooling concept is finally the total mess and will kill every twin that will be used on a regular basis!  :P

You are correct but Echo did a pretty good job with all these obstacles.

Kind of a cool idea, though not sure if making things more complicated is the way to go with saws. Reliably is the biggest selling point of them. Power seems to be on par with other good 60cc saw from the vids I've seen. Would make a cool project saw for sure!

I wouldn't mind having a really slick one of the JD versions of the 'evil twin' just to bust a buddy's chops! If you run across a really nice one you want to pass on, let me know!

I own a Echo cst610evl , if you check eBay the last ones sold went for $400-$600 , mine runs and looks great, I think it actually looks better than any of the ones I've seen sold on eBay , and I'm sure those Johndeere's are worth even more.

I happen to own a very nice condition echo twin, I only run it a couple times a year just to make sure it keeps running, it's all original and looks nearly new.

has anyone messed with a 610evl that has lost spark to one cyl?  I haven't had any luck trying to find a ign. module

I noticed a twin ignition set on ebay yesterday for $150 while looking for something else.  You might want to check there.

The twin ignition module fires both coils at the same time, so it sounds like your module is ok its just a coil that you need.  The early 6700 and 5500 had two piece ignitions, module separate from coil, maybe one of those coils would work?  Echo stopped supporting these engines in their last parts go round so I do not know of anyone who has new sets in stock.

I looked for the set I noticed yesterday and cant find it, maybe sold.  I did come across a 6700/5500 two piece coil here; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Echo-NOS-Chainsaw-Ignition-Coil-PT-15662632630/151970489874?_trksid=p2050601.c100085.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140211132617%26meid%3D822cfabfe6cc46f7adff67e456c7bad8%26pid%3D100085%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D291648972354%26clkid%3D3040255504139940562&_qi=RTM2247627

Randy's engine has the twin coil for $90; http://www.ebay.com/itm/IGNITION-COIL-ECHO-15662616130-CST-610EVL-REC-600-/131466343867?hash=item1e9c0135bb:g:~4IAAOSwrklVFZbR

Saving info Holmentree shared on the echo 610 twin from a ole magazine.

Great article on the Echo 610 twin. Chy, I think you were talking about the double reed valve setup.

Links below to article.   Thank You @HolmenTree

Have one of these headed my way in the mail from the US.  My first twin!  Hope to have a Solo Twin to keep it company at some point in the near future.
