Hi everyone. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm from all the way down in New Zealand and hope to get a bit of help from you guys. I've just scored myself an 066.......well at least a box full of parts and a half dismantled 066. I'm hoping that someone can send me a service manual for it so I can get things right and check if what has been put together on it has been done correctly. I've already found a few things on the wrong way round or upside down so It's a bit of a nightmare. I've put a new cylinder and piston kit on it and a new rebuild kit in the carb (walbro WJ 67). I think I've finally got the metering level set right?? Does anyone have a specific measurement for this carb? There wasn't a 67 model listed on the walbro pages so I used a similar setting- .7mm below the machined surface either side of the lever arm? Anyway I've got everything fitted and it doesn't want to start. I've had a few coughs, splutters and backfires and that's it. It's almost as if the timing is out. I pulled the flywheel to check if there were 2 keyways but there was only one. Maybe the ignition is not compatible or something??? Here's the numbers: Fly wheel- 1122 400 1217 C>PA66-GF 30< and ignition- 11221314
Another thing I noticed was the decompression button seemed to be worn so I replaced it with a plug. Compression seemed to improve a lot but still no start up. Should the L & H screws be set at one turn or 1 1/4 turn for initial start up and the other screw (I think it's for idle) the same??
I know a lot of this has been covered in other posts but I'm still none the wiser.
Any advice would be appreciated

Check your PM's. I usually set the lever arm flush with the carb if i remember correctly. L&H settings sound close enough to get it started. I'll try and find out if your Coil and flywheel are matching.

On that timing it should be around 27 degrees advance .
An easy way to check is by marking the flywheel at top dead center then rotating it until the flywheel magnets are dead center of the coil lamenations .It's not accurate but it will show if it's going the right way .

Your flywheel and coil match. Thats a good sign. Are you sure your getting good bright blue hot spark?? Not just a weak orange spark? it wont run on a weak spark....

Spark seems strong & blue. Will check advance. I did have trouble with flooding while adjusting the metering lever. Crankcase was saturated so have left to drain. Would that also contribute to not starting??

IMO flooding does. When I have flooded something or something flooded comes in. I pull plug pull over and let set a min 12hrs till next day. Put plug in and usually the fire right up.

I'll try leaving it for a couple of days to dry up then try it. I'll let you know what happens.
