Can a compression release be added onto a 064?

I don't see why not .You might want to look into an 046 rescue saw D-handle .About 5 bucks .
Fact I've got D's on a 2100 Huskey,084 Stihl and souped up 038 Mag .Saves the fingers for certain .

Here is my 066 Red Light that never had a compression release. It has the rescue starter handle and is no problem to start.

Well I had an 084 come back on me like an angry mule and I think broke something in my hand .Hurt for about 6-8 months after .
Down at Bill Poors GTG good old Fred pulled over my souped 038 mag slowly and it likened to have ripped his arm off .You don't ever play patty cake with a high compression engine .Pull that pot licker over with authority

I have a Dolmar 111 like that. If you are going to start it, you best be determined that you ARE going to start it and pull with determination and vigour or it will jerk the handle through your fingers if you meekly mess around. If you are MEAN, it is no problem at all.

The worst one I ever had and still own is a Mac 6-10 which is just a souped up 70 cc version of the old 10-10 .
I had the timing cranked to over 30 degees advance ,just on the verge of not being able to start .I had that little rascal "walk the rope " on me and never ever started that saw again on a drop start with that much advance .Scared the dickens out of me .If that thing would have fired it could have taken my arm off before I knew what was happening .Be carefull out there now .

Never put a D handle on my 066 redlight but I found a rubber T handle from an old Jonsered 90 works just fine.Having running saws most of my life without a decomp valve my hand grip has adjusted ;D
BTW how many of you have noticed your Stihl offset T handle always turns around to the backwards position and you have to turn it back to get a good grip on it.
My Jonsered even sided T handle can spin around all it wants and is always ready for a good grip

I've never seen an off set D myself .The 046 rescue seems to work best for me but I rubber tape then plastic over the hand grip .The things are made for rescue workers wearing big thick gloves .Although I have pretty tough hands that surface is a little rough on the fingeys .
You probabley have a good point on other grips like maybe a rubber boat motor grip .Danged regular saw engine grips just don't get it sometimes .

I tryed the rescue saw grip, worked great! I made up my mind to not pussyfoot around when trying to start it, go for it. When I got a little lazy it let me know. LOL THANKS for all your responses they really helped a lot.
