The Bells came before the Silveys & Oregons and were a continuation of the Neilsen line of grinders I think? There was a whole series of them. This one doesn't have 10 degree tilt but many people don't use that anyway or they don't use chains with tilted top plates. These use a smaller wheel and a higher rpm motor. The wheels for these are still advertised for sale. This one will need a cord. It looks to be fabricated and if ever anything broke, you could probably make it or get it made locally.
This grinder was made for many years so you will see some variations in the motor used and various other changes as time went on. Also this may be a Neilson or a Bell brand depending on age?
4 X 3/8 X 3/16 wheel for 3/8 and 404 chain (R) FOR RESINOID
4 X 3/8 X 1/8 Wheel for 3/8 LP and .325 chain
These grinders were models K50, K100B, K150, KB1
This post is put here mainly for historical curosity as this grinder probably dates in the 70's? It is located near Lancaster, Pa $75

I have one of these Nielsen K50 grinders that I use for grinding depth gauges. It is a nice little machine. I really like the way the vise clamps the chain. It clamps two drive links at the same time, so that entire cutter (and depth gauge) is held down.
I would like to be able to reverse the motor, however. One can tell the difference in the feel of the grind when doing left and right hand depth gauges with a non-reversing grinder.
1. Seeing that the schematic and exploded view show a rectifier bridge (K50-7), can one assume that this is a DC motor?
2. If so, could a DPDT switch be used to reverse the motor?
3. If so, would it be located between the capacitor (K50-8) and the motor?

Might try picking this guys brain. @Al Smith

Yes according to that schematic that is a Full wave bridge feeding into that motor. So a DC motor.
And I believe you are correct if you put a DPDT Switch at the motor it will reverse polarity. The cap is a filtering cap for smoothing out the DC. The wires are marked black and white.

I really appreciate the replies. Happened to think of ham radio buddy that is an electronics engineer and asked him where the DPDT should be placed. I thought I would post his reply:
Hi Eldon, It should go on the side, between the capacitor and the motor. I would put it
there just in case the capacitor is polarized. Putting it on the other side of the
capacitor shouldn't make a difference.

I will mention that I have done business with John Brooks of Brooks Enterprises. He is very nice to deal with and is very knowledgeable about the Nielsen units. He also made his own grinder (Brooks B125) but it is not being produced. I have gotten grinding wheels and a K50 stop pawl from him. He stocks a grinding wheel that is very hard for doing depth gauges on the Nielsen grinders that I really like. I do not know if is available for other grinders or not. I have a different phone number for him that I have used and a fax number. It has been a year or so since I got something from him.
