Title: Poulan 3450 Badboy Tim Allen TA BB
Post by: Cut4fun . on January 19, 2013, 09:24:46 pm
First one of these I have ever saw. Poulan 3450 TA edition bad boy.

Just noticed looking at pics it has a black tank instead of geen one like on the TA 3750 badboy.

Poulan 3.3  Tim Allen Bad Boy 3450

Sweet!  Didn't know they made that version.  From the IPL it shows purple covers I just assumed it was because it fits a 3750 too.

It has it marked 3450 on both the starter and clutch cover, so there is no swapping from a 3750.  Never seen one either.

The tank decal sez 3450 (and  "2" to the right of the SN) as well as "54cc", so it's actually a 54cc saw instead of one of the 61cc 3450 T3's.  When I saw Marc's ad I was hoping the decal was going to have "3" next to the SN and "61cc" instead.  Oh well.  I don't "need" to go after yet another saw right now anyways..... ;D

I hear ya, and I already have I think 3, 3450's and really do not need another unless of course the price was right.  Now if it was a 3750 it would have been gone.

Yep.  I have a nice PP330 (although I'm STILL waiting on backordered parts for it from Baileys.......GRRRR).  Would like to land a nice 3750,  PP380, or 3450 T3 to run alongside the 330.  If I can get a 3450/PP330 cheap enough to make buying a new PP380 top end for it, then that'd be cool too.:D

Guess I am the new owner of a 3450 bad boy.  Still never seen one or finding much info.

You know what I have in her and  you know where she is at if anyone wants her in in their collection down the road.

I just cant stand seeing it not make it to a poulan collector someday.

Alright for you.   I thought the saw was pretty cool but just to many irons in the fire right now.  Like you said down the road I know where it is.

I honestly can not find another pic of a 3450 TA BB  ???  All kinds of 3750 TA BB's I never saw before though in my searching.

I was hoping fastleo would buy the saw but he was afraid of all that purple.  ;)

I like all the purple especially when cutting with my BIL and he has his stihls out there and I am cutting circles around him.   He just shakes his head at me because of the purple.   It is like real chainsaw guys do not have purple saws.

I did catch the TA 3450 used black tanks like on the others in class  and the TA 3750 used the green tanks.

Also something else I noticed. The TA 3450 was sold with 20" and the 3750 was sold with 22"

20", 70DL, 3/8, 50 gauge, Poulan BadBoy bar, laminated, K041 mount $20.00 ea.

22", 76DL, 3/8, 50 gauge, Poulan BadBoy OEM bar, laminated, K041 mount $22.00 ea.

Both still sold in the online dealer section.

I have two of the 22" 3750 bars and a few of the 20 inch bars also.  When I got my TA 3750 it came with two bars the orginal bar and oregon bar.   I have never ran it with the 22" bar on it because I have been using one of the 20" ones from a 3450.

For guys thinking it is T3 3450 60cc.

If you look at sticker on back in pic it says 54cc 1999 and T-2. Looking at another pic there is no fins like on the 60cc cylinders. Just what I have noticed in pics.

He has a 026 and a 028 super and my 335 will out cut them both.   He is just a real die hard stihl person so it would not make any difference if I was cutting with 65cc saw or something else, if it was not a Stihl to him it would not matter.   So I like to come up with off the wall saws that he has not even seen or heard of before that out cut what he has.  It actually does not take much to be honest.    Do not get me wrong I like Stihls and have two 036's in really nice shape.   I am just not a die hard.

I noticed the difference in the muffler, the signature on starter cover a different color, the cylinder cooling fins, what else did you notice.

Oh forgot the black gas tank and handle.

I also have a 3450 Bad Boy that is almost new condition, that I will finish when I get a starter pulley for it - robbed for some other project - I need 2 pulleys with steel tubes for this series of saw and can't find them anywhere. It has a black tank. I don't know if black tanks were std on 3450 BB, but this saw came from Poulan like this.

Any pics?

I just hope it gets in a collectors hands. Thats all I was going to do was make sure it got to someone that would appreciate its rarity.

There's been 145 viewers of the Tim Allen saw as of this afternoon but only 6 different bidders so far. In my experience with eBay, the winning bidder is often not an early bidder. ie, their winning bid is the only time they show up.
Someone will get this pretty nice saw as I didn't put a reserve on it. At the price it's at now, it would be a great deal just for firewooding. I suspect it will go much higher. I really thought it would get picked up on AS but nothing happened there. Most of the saws I've listed on AS don't sell there. I typically post them up for a few days and then sell them on the Atlanta CL. This saw seemed unique enough I thought I'd give it a go on eBay. I rebuild quite a few saws but mostly Stihl 1127 series and I don't bother posting those online as they're prolific so no need to mail them. I have one or two on CL most of the time in the winter. This Poulan has been sort of a fun experience to stumble into it while on a road trip and then find out it is a desirable collector's item.
Well, how desirable it is will be known about 9 days from now.

Yeah, on AS I'm fearofpavement. I don't usually use the same handle on multiple sites. I have no idea what the saw will sell for. Post Christmas a lot of people are strapped for dollars but maybe someone got some cash they need to get rid of. Hard to know. Guess it depends on how badly at least two people want it.

eBay sale ends today. 40 people are watching it but not that many bidders so far. It's at $147.50 at present.
My Allis Chalmers 75-A saw (S25DA) is ending tomorrow and that's up to $182.50 so far.

I expect the Tim Allen saw to go above $300 and the AC saw to top out in the mid 200's. That's just a guestimate of course and with eBay, one never knows. I've seen stuff sell on there for $200 that I wouldn't have paid more than $35 for. Never can tell. Interesting point on the AC saw is that the high bidder is the person that already purchased the other one from me (I had two). They didn't bid until they received the first one in the mail. Must have liked what they saw. I do try to give very accurate descriptions of my items so someone won't be surprised either way.

Yep that is me.  My son said he could not get it to turn over.  CL seller said runs fine but needs a chain. Worse case it was straight gassed and will need piston and cylinder replaced.  I am thinking it will be a flat top 54cc engine in it.  Maybe I need to ship this to some guy in Ohio somewhere that has better knowledge and parts stream to fix if this is the case?  Definitely worth quality fixing/restore.

My current job puts me into a lot of commute time daily so it would gather a lot of dust before I could get to fixing right now.

Tim Allen 3450 is a flat top 54cc unless someone has changed it out before.

Guessing your in TX. Just so you know shipping back and forth to TX is pretty expensive.  I have noticed this over the years of shipping there.

Check impulse and fuel lines.  Pull the red and blue epa stops on carb.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the articles in this forum on the Poulan muscle saws that are written by world class Poulan chainsaw Reverse Engineers.  There are several in this place.

Just a bit of an update, got this saw running piston and jug are in great shape with good compression, found the air boot clamp loose and readjusted the boot and clamp securely.  Did not have to do any carb adjust it was pretty good on the  rich side but not changing it until I can put it into a cut.  The thing that is wrong is it is not oiling the bar correctly.  I have adjusted the oiler screw all the way out, it just drips some oil on the deck but nothing seems to be traveling through to the bar in any good amount, so some further T/S work needed.  I have shelved it for a later project now though.

Guy I know picked up some saws I turned him onto.

Very cool. I couldnt run to get them yesterday and no time today. So I thought you would appreciate the fine saws. 3450 TA is the rarer of the 2 BB's. 👍

Saving the 3450 bb ta pics to it's thread on my website.

The one I found that started this thread. Found some old pics.   Tag still on it on back too.

It's the one I bought for 150 plus shipping and sold for what I had in it to collector friend.
