Hi there,
what are your thoughts on the best bar length for the above saw? We're talking serious felling work on big hard wood trees. Jonsered give max bar length of 28". We think this might be a little short on power; perhaps 22" or 24" ? What about type of bar? Solid or laminate? What about replaceable nose, or not? Your thoughts, and experience would be appreciated.

I like 20" solid bars on the 65's. I bought one 65 off the bay that had a nice 28" bar which I plan to use on a 372. Most of my 372's have 24" bars. I have different brand bars but they are all solid with replaceable tips.

I was only bucking hardwood. I liked 20" on 365 362xp and 7T rim. 365 would pull 24" but I had 372's set up for that. I think it was Willard that liked 22" bars on one of his saws.
What you describe I would want solid with replaceable tips.

you obviously have a wide selection of saws. If the 65 was your biggest saw, what bar would you put on it.

you need to explain "bucking" to me. I'm a limey! I guess you mean cutting cord wood for the fire??

I have three 65's
Anyway, I would have a 20" as my main bar. Then have a 28" bar for those big trees. The laminated bar weighs less than a replaceable tip solid bar. But when the laminated bar wears out, it is done for.

You are correct in bucking refers to cutting cord wood.
