Title: Stupid Mistake!!!!!!
Post by: Giles on January 26, 2013, 03:36:26 pm
As some might know--I recently got a bad deal on eBay. I bought a Makita DCS520i that was vastly misrepesented! It locked up 10 seconds after start.
I found Piston/Cylinder damage from some type foreign object in cylinder??????
All the buffers were broken, flywheel baffle along with both chain catchers were missing, and the ididt had a new bar and chain that wasn't the right one.
I replaced the P/C and all the other items and the saw started on the second pull. :o
On all the saws I repair, I only put in a small amount of gas because many times I have had to empty them for further work..
I adjusted the carburetor while making several cuts in a large oak trunk. I could not get the adjustment right! The saw stopped a few times, for no apparent reason, but started right back up. ???
I took the saw back in the shop and removed the carburetor to check the tank vent---again.
I got my gas container to drain the gas----yes , you gessed it----It was empty :-[
I filled the tank ---FULL this time----- and the saw started and ran perfect for that tank full. ;D
I REALLLY LIKE this saw. It's the first Makita/Dolmar I have owned and it is a keeper.

Like I always tell people CHECK THE SIMPLE THINGS FIRST

I was trying to start a racesaw to warm up and get fuel through it to flush out the flush mix. Well she would fire off the prime I would squirt in the carb and not take off.  ???  So I did it again and again.  ??? ???  So I thought well let me look in the tank, hmmm no alky in the tank.  :D :D  Chit happens to us sometimes.

Another one I remember. This was before 06 in my old 1800's barn freezing my tail off in a drafty barn. One day I had spark on a saw and fired it off. next day no spark.  I keep messing around trying to start and was getting ready to swap coils when I noticed the on/off switch was off.

My dad oiled the gas ,twice .Then I did it myself head in butt .

Wd-40 used to use propane as a propellant  and you could safely fire one off on wd-40 to purge the oily gas out of the crankcase back then .Talk about smoke ,wow .

I anti freezed a weed wacker once too .After that I ceased using old anti freeze jugs for my saw gas .

I havent heard of this one before.  Anyone else done this?  Forget to install a wrist pin bearing.   :o

I guess my time will come too.  :-\

Quote from: Jeff Lary
you know somthing if you put the piston on the wrist pin without the wrist pin bearing,... that will make your saw go CLACK,CLACK,CLACK. What a dumb az,.. oh well got her solved anyway thats all that matters. Jeff

did that once. then another time found a c-clip on the bench after i reassembled a saw, tore that saw back down only to find both clips in place. turned out to be from the previous rebuild and was a left over used one. tossed it back in the little container i keep all the used ones in. good to have lots of used ones around but not out where they'll play games with your head.
