Title: Stihl 009 / 010 / 011 Reed valve gasket confusion
Post by: Remington on February 17, 2013, 12:10:34 am
Maybe someone knows this situation. There are 2 styles of the air intake section on the 009 to 011 models.

When I called the dealer to get a reed gasket for the 011AV,  I got a gasket that fits my 009 or the second style of the 011 if you want to call it that.. I can't blame them since my manual lists the same part for the 011 but that pictures is different and would be the second style.

Is there a manual or another IPL for the alternate chassis.

This saw seems to be a mess, they both come in red and white, they both come in rear and top handle and I'm just finding out they both come with 2 different air intakes.

For the record,

my 011 is Red and Rear Handle and has the oval reed valve.

my 009 is White and Top Handle and has the round reed valve.

The pic shows the difference, close but no fit. The left is the gasket for style 1 and the right is the style 2 which is needed. I suppose this same scenario would come up for the air filter cover as well since the same saw has 2 styles of air filter covers.

Time to make your own gasket?

what happens next time when the air filter cover flies off or the carb breaks.  can't make those out paper.

much better to find the IPL for the second style and inform the dealer

I have a feeling that he'll proclaim the chainsaw not repairable and offer you $5 off on a new one?

Part number 1120 129 0506 is what you have. 1120 129 0505 is what you need. This gasket is for the early 011 models.
I sent you a IPL in a PM. There are both versions in that IPL. The version you need is illustration F.

Thanks so much. you really are a man of stihl.

Just one more hurdle. I have to face the dealer again to order a $2 part back to part.

On those early models a lot of them used slotted philister headed screws .If you have problems as you suggested with the carb falling off throw those things away and replace them with torx head screws .Torx heads where not even thought of when that thing was made .You get those tight they won't rattle loose plus if you ever need to remove them you can get them out .Slotted heads will fight you .

You can get them through Northwood for 25-40 cents a pop . A dealer might charge you a buck and half to two per .
