Title: Facebook Chainsaw Repair
Post by: Cut4fun . on February 21, 2013, 01:46:58 pm
Just letting you guys know that I started a Chainsaw Repair group on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/415662708518445/

Figured I would get the name while it was still open.   Just another way to help and stay in touch with folks I know.

For you folks that didnt know The Chainsaw Repair group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/415662708518445/?ref=bookmarks

Heading toward 12,000 member's. Seems to be what the Millennials are into.

Jim runs it for me and at least 8-10 mods. We keep it clean and boot A-holes quickly.

I save the good stuff here still  before it gets lost. Lot of great info gets shared there. Just so you all know.

Thanks for the heads up Kevin!
Holy cow 12,000 members . I tried scrolling through the names to see if I knew anyone and gave up half way through the A's ......hahaha.
Excellent resource , you've done well . Must keep you busy.

Looks good from what I see threw my wife's Facebook account. Didn't join the group as she may get upset with me if her newsfeed blows up with chainsaw stuff. She does handle my tractor pulling buddies stuff pretty well.

My wife has a facebook account but it is not my thing.   I like the forums and that will suffice for my social media.

Its such a faster pace Roger  with the info etc.  Its immediate info at finger tips. I guess it is why the younger folks like it.
I like be able to save stuff on the website myself. To much info gets lost the other way.
Just like the name of a single board on a website and crap gets buried.

@Al Smith Mac 325 restore with 2 buttons Rick Helsel wants your info there if you could.

The format, rapid pace of activity, and the general mindset on FB rankles me......particularly on the chainsaw sales pages.  The forums still suit me much better....

and you think vultures are bad on the websites. Just wow there  :o. You have to beat them back LOL

That 361 would have sold there in the first few mins of the repostings. ;)

I tried to tolerate the FB chainsaw pages, but gave up after a few months.  Everybody's trying so hard to make a buck off of everyone else (or be on the 'winning end' of every trade).  It's off putting....

I've been screwed twice on facebook transactions.

I've been screwed twice on facebook transactions.

Yep if it dont feel right I dont pay unless paypal normal way. Thats why I didnt get that $100 Twin JD 66. ;)  He didnt have paypal.  Couldnt find no one close to pick up.

Another was a poulan 4000 guy didnt have paypal.  If I feel uneasy gut feeling they better have paypal.  I aint sending money order or check or friends family paypal way.

Now I did meet a dealer on the CR group that was a poulan dealer back in the day. ;)  NOS parts etc.  Was his dads place back then and sold the 380 415-505 new etc.
I did look it all up make sure the shop was listed in the state and then called the shop to see if he was there and gladly gave my credit card info for the purchases.   ;D  Have never ever seen this guy on a website yet.

What I thought was crazy. He posted 2

441 500

372 500

Both looked sweet

But I would never ever pay that for a 441, heck I wouldnt pay 400 for one. The 441 is the one that sold in 2mins.

Yeah it is killing me. I have got real selective and buying just the 60cc up poulans now. Have 2 benches almost full for repairs to do later.

Last saw I bought there was 45mins in with 1 thinking about before me and several lining up. I just said sold before someone bought it while I was wanting to see more.  Just got to pull the trigger or someone else swoops in.

You get a lot more traffic on FB than most forums .I only got on there because my wife was ill and many of my family is there including a closed section just for family .It was simpler than making telephone calls .

I belong to a few groups, only one or two concerning chainsaws which I seldom visit .A couple concerning submarines which are kind of a fraternity thing that nobody would understand unless you'd been there .

I personally would prefer to use forums than FB for chainsaw related stuff .I can only imagine what kind of stupid chit would come up in conversation on FB .

Yep that is how I got roped into it in beginning. Family then started a HS football group for players and parents.  Then HS reunion classmates got hold of me.
Then I thought to myself. Why not start a spin off of here.

I hate that info cant be save there in FB group. I miss tons of it. But when I see something gooooood. I save it here in threads.

One thing I have learned there with having so many folks. I can make a post here and a few other forums. Then in the FB group. Seconds later I will have a list of answers on the group over the forums taking so much longer and fewer post.

Just alot more folks to give ideas. Still all in all they all work together because I save the good stuff here still.

One of the things that could be a sticky spot on the FB is guys posting the Hutzl or Stihl knock-offs on FB as YouTube is already censoring those videos of guys posting their Chinese orange/white colored chainsaw kits put together.  It violates the terms and agreements.  Probably from Stihl or maybe the radical brand loyal crowd who knows?  Will Facebook do the same on these type of CR posts if somebody make an issue out of it?
Title: Re: Facebook Chainsaw Repair

I dont see the problem with that at all. Heck there is a whole group on nothing but the china knockoffs and putting them together already.

I'm just amazed how much quicker it is to get a answer to a new question there.   I think with having bunch of dealers there helps with that too.

I've tested my theory on it a couple times. Post on 3 forums and there.  FB CR group 100x faster.
Dont even ask questions on about 10 forums as never get much info from them LOL.

I think this is due to how the younger generation has  went that direction for everything. Wanting it at their finger tips.

I'm just amazed how much quicker it is to get a answer to a new question there.

Faster is not always better!

I don't mean this in a snarkey way.  When you get to know other participants in a forum like this, you can develop the ability to understand / interpret / appreciate / filter their comments in a useful way.  A quick, "Should have bought a STIHL", or, "Chain must be the wrong pitch", from someone you don't know, and who clearly has not read the preceding comments in that thread, is not very helpful.

I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the comments and input posted in this forum.  I heavily filter most of the FB posts. JMHO.

True! Not just on FB tho prevalent answer on other forums too.  I've busted chops on other Forums for their stupid posts when someone is looking for answers.  Did no good but I felt better.  That's why I have a high regard for our site.  BS can play on Sawhogs and elsewhere.  We truly are here to help.

Sounds like Facebook has all the chainsaw repair action. I have thought about joining FB a couple of times. But every time I tell my wife I am thinking of joining. Up to 32,000  now with about 800 blocked.

You find there is a lot of snowflakes and d---heads in the world. ;) But they get removed pretty fast. ;)

Betting close to 15-20 moderators now.

snowflake =  A very sensitive person. Someone who is easily hurt or offended by the statements or actions of others.

Noticed the bigger forums getting worse numbers 10-85

Over 40,500+  today on FB group.   With average of 11,000 to 14,000 checking in a day.  Still over 28,000 checking in total in week or so different folks.
