Post by: Cut4fun . on January 28, 2019, 04:04:42 pm
Somebody must have heard me whining about the heavy saws. 😢
1 owner stihl 088 in and husky 3120. Told him throw some short bars on them please.
Story on 088 is sad. Owner given 2 moths to live with stage 4. Selling his cars, motorcycles, saws local.
What is the norm carb on the 088 a HT? 7 10 12?
Dag nab white plastic stops still on carb H L too.

Looks like a really over-heated clutch cooked the oiler gear.

A cooked clutch like that usually happens when a person gets the bar and chain pinched in a tree and keeps on the throttle hoping to get free, the clutch springs will be cooked too.

Rk24HS Tillotson kits most of them.

Isn't that for the HT12  or others?   I think I have that on hand for some huskys  =
This is an OEM Tillotson carburetor repair kit that is part number RK-24HS (RK24HS, RK-24-HS). This kit is on Husqvarna 268K, 268KAP, 272K, 272KAP, 272S, Dolmar 120 Super, 121S, SD-143, and some Alpina models. This kit is used on the following Tillotson models: HS-144d, HS-158F, HS-236E, and HS-255A, B.

Need to see if I have any of my carb kits left over from the 084's with HT 1 3 5 7

Well it fit HT1 to 5 and more that I know of, maybe later carbs had a change...
I still have a cache of Ht-1 to Ht-4 that I would get rid of. HT-5 plus I 'm not interested in for performance.

The HT was built using the HS metering parts and pump parts, same carb kit applied.

HT-5 and later had governor circuits and other things not condusive to performance applications for or my usage..

Sold all of my HT 1 3 5 long ago when I got out of it. 50 a pop in 2010.
Dennis Cahoon from Calif told me HT 1 was best to use of series back in the day for a serious build.

The carb on the 088 is HT-12 so does that change up the carb kit needed?

HT-12 uses a different kit again. Dont recall using that on in the  1 3 5 7 thinking needles were different when I was doing them, one you mentioned. Just a WAG

It does list a 084 though too.  But not the carb 1 3 5 7 etc

OK,I see the difference now,the pump diaphragm from the newer kit is the "teflon" one like WJ kits have. So all parts interchange, just the newer HS kits have the teflon pump diaphragm for later methanol gas.

I remember now also the needle in the 1 3 5 7 was different too.    Why this kit offers 2.   Least from what I recall.

I buy all my kits with the ethanol resistant check valve side dias.

Working on getting a new stihl es 59" 404 3002 mount for the local. Dang thats a pricey bar.

Although more costly my choice is always the Tsumura bars, much higher quality and harder steel(Very hard!),and the groove is tighter and more precise from new. The Stihl bar is my #2 choice for sure. I used to measure the groove of various brand new bars,Tsumura was always the tightest.
I still have a collection of early Ht1 to Ht4 carbs I don't need anymore, and 084 intake boots and auxiliary fuel pumps.

I would use the carb kit with the teflon pump diaphragm for U.S. fuels,on any Ht or HS carb.

Alot of people forget about the Sandvik bars from the 1980s. Excellent steel and the detachable noses were matched to the gauge of the bar rail groove in .050, .058 and .063.
Also the nose side plates were staggered where they meet at the bar rails allowing the chain to travel on a smooth unbroken path .
The Swedes knew what they were doing, then they took Windsor to court and bought them out.

Tsumura bar always been much cheaper for me to buy then stihl bars.

I get tsumura for myself and firewood cutters.

Longest I have seen though was the 36" 119dl one in 3/8. Dont come close to the longer bars this guy wants in 59-60. He already has 41" and shorter ones.

One day in a shop someone bought a new 36" Tsumura bar from us but wanted a 1/2" hole drilled in it to attach an accessory, the person was waiting so I quickly tried to drill the hole in it but no luck,a normal new drill bit would not drill it,I got a carbide bit and tried again,no luck. Finally I heated the spot red hot with a torch and smoked the bit thru. Any other bar I've drilled easily.
Tsumura does say to avoid twisting the bar badly or bending it hard,it can crack.(From the hardness)

It's been a day or three since I've ran any of the large saws which includes an 084 so it would not be surprising if the carb needs a kit .Hopefully some time early in the fall I'll continue cutting down from a big pile of oak that has some large rounds which would be good to give them some exercise .I don't actually know if an 084 has any more guts than a Mac 125 or a Homelite 2100 S . I'll take notes if it gets that far . My guess is there won't be much difference .
