Title: poulan 2050 carb linkage
Post by: pete on May 27, 2013, 07:29:37 am
Hi guys can someone please post a pic or 3 of the poulan 2050 carb to throttle linkage    Linkage

I take saws to work and let the boys from our special education unit dismantle and clean them up under supervision.  These guys are like normal lads when it comes to tools and motors so many basket case saws and brushcutters go in for them to pull apart..   Unfortunately sometimes one of my saws gets mistaken for a basket case  as has happened here I had this saw pulled down to refit a carb kit but had to wait for the carb mating gasket to come in the post
One of the lads informed me he had cleaned my saw for me I thanked him and then found out it was a good one that I was fixing   He was able to show me where all the screws and bits were but the throttle linkage is long gone
So please a pic of the part and possibly one in situ would be great Or if someone has one to sell let me know Only snag is I am in oz cheers

I went to google and typed in, Poulan 2050 ipl, and the third hit on the list shows the parts list with a picture of the linkage.  Sorry but I do not have a saw to take a picture of.

I think I have a 1950 or 2050 and a 2375 on the shelf. What pics you needing?

I probably have a linkage you could have. You pay shipping to Oz tough.  :o

What would shipping be   I have sent an email to the company with the ipl they have the throttle wire for 1.25   so I dont know wether they will answer me or not.  If I dont hear from them in a couple of days I would happily go for it.  like to get this project finished thanks

Rutroa SOL  :-[ :-[  Must have used the last linkages I had on the heinz 57 rebuilds I did last time or 2.  Sorry none found.

Pics of a 1950 linkage runs on flywheel side on this one.  I have also seen linkage on other poulans on right side clutch side.

Back when racing we used to make one of a kind chainsaw linkages from metal clothes hangers and then I started to use something Al Smith hook me up with. Cant remember the wires name off hand but it was stiffer then hanger wire.

You can take another carb linkage and rebend it too. Heat sometimes is needed for bending.

Welding wire for a tig welder works great.   It comes in different sizes and In stainless or mild steel.    Ask a welder for a small piece if you know one.

This saw is giving me the s**s did the carb  got it fired up could not tune it to four stroke and no oiler working so left it for a week until today, Fired up on choke no problem idled fine but no oil  How do I get into this thing is it remove clutch and go from there, also tip it clutch side down it will race and die. Thinks me maybe bad seal which would account for not being able to tune the carb.. Are these problem saws or ok  Got it for 55 bucks on ebay but now I have a few hours into it and carb and fuel lines..   Maybe some of the electolux macs have the same oiler I have a couple that look the same on the outside just yellow.  Also have aquired in a swap the guts of whats supposed to be a pp3000 but has no outer cases so anywhere to look for numbers or ID
This also has been used as a parts saw so no muffler but Pand C look clean are they worth the effort or just ebay it on for parts that are left
I need to get me some lighter firewood sawsa as most of my stuff is collector based cheers

oooosh! 55 bux is way too much for one of those saws in non running condition. and to have to put more cash into it on top of that. you won't get any money from it on ebay for parts as there is way too many of them out there.
cut your losses and toss it on a shelf until some kid wants it to play with.
around my parts here, you get $50 for one that's in very good shape, runs good and cuts good.

I wish I was in your neck of the woods down under prices are a lot more Watched one recently went to nearly 150  and the prices you guys pay for new husky's leaves me green with envy I will try find last weeks paper and post up new prices for the new xps
This 2050 was advertised starts and runs needs tune up was my late brothers saw been sitting on a shelf looks good and all the rest of the bull that goes with it but it looked clean and with compression so I had already left feedback loooooong b4 I got round to playing with it

gotcha on your location. didn't realize you were from down under :) these are anywhere from $99 up to $150 here depending what store has the sale that week.
have you turned the saw over to se if the 4 mounting bolts are tight? even a little loose means you need to pull the engine out and do a re-seal.
the clutch needs to come off so you can look at the oil pump. and to change that seal, you need to remove the oiler gear from the crank, which can be a pain if you don't have the right tool or a good copy of one. but never seen a bad seal on one of these, just loose mounting bolts causing an airleak. chances are you're going to have to pull it down anyway. no other way around it.

Yeah Pete you paid way to much for a builder, but then again where are you located?
I just shipped a ported 346 PHO to Australia because their prices are 3to4 times more for saws.  Even with shipping  he came way way way ahead. Shipping was  around $110.  Wouldnt pay to do that on the little clamshell poulans though.

I been selling runners here in 2150 to 2375 for $50.

Post by: pete on June 24, 2013, 07:22:13 am
Thanks guys yep paid to much but as it was described as a runner,ah well we live and learn, bolts are tight underneath first thing I checked I remember following a post here on loose or missing case bolts, seen that gear tool last night on ebay but thought if I am replacing the pump completely I wouldn't need one but I gather the seals inside the pump.  Got a jonsered 2050 on the shelf fried top end (straight gas) got it for two bucks a long while back, got a new piston and air filter from ebay and will order some new seals and have a go at that one.
I have a lot of good vintage runners but there are days a lighter saw is more desirable
Lately have been using my 009s 010 a husky 142 and dolmar 100s a lot as they are much lighter and the stuff I have available is mainly cyprus pine, Still love my promac700 and 850 great cutters and good saws

no the seal is behind the pump, not in the pump and you need the proper tool to remover the gear. the oil pump is attached to the plastic case, not the engine.

These saws are simple to work on. I was going to attach a cobbled up service manual for this family of saws that I happened to have; but it was too large. This covers both non-vibration-isolated saws and also AV saws in this family. The engine, oiler, starter etc is the same so don't let the diagrams confuse you. The oiler isn't complicated so it should be fairly easy to troubleshoot.
I will send you PM.

So with this gear that needs to be removed does that mean I cant just unbolt the unit chuck it out and replace it with another
Title: Re: poulan 2050 carb linkage

to replace the crank seal, you need to remove the oiler gear.
to replace the oil pump, all you need to remove is the clutch/drum parts and the oiler is right there.
you said it had an air leak. just replacing the oil pump isn't going to fix that. it does not have a seal in it. it is not mounted to the engine and had nothing to do with how the saw runs.
you need to remove the metal worm style gear to get the seal off the crank.
clear as mud? ???

ok now we are getting somewhere The pics I have seen of the pumps showed a small gear and I thought thats what you meant.  I suspect an air leak as I can not tune the carb and when tipped clutch side down it revs out and when straightened up dies,  This thing will get done when the parts come along at the right price and with our aussie dollar taking a dive it could be awhile but I have plenty of others to play with

pete here is the poulan worm gear tool for the wire gear on the crankshaft.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/POULAN-CHAINSAW-OILER-PUMP-WORM-GEAR-TOOL-530031166-/280338403824?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41457891f0

and it should be used. the 'gear' is basicly just a round diameter wire twisted into shape. and can be mis-alligned very easily or pushed on and the space between the coils can become either too close or to far open resulting in fragging the oiler pump gear. these saws are far from precise and made with low tolerances, but this part has to be exactly right or you're asking for trouble.

I had 2. Actually had to remove a worm gear from one to send.

I'm going to mail in a bubble wrap envelope. All I ask is the replacement cost for me to replace it here, plus your actual shipping cost to you in USD by Paypal as friend.

I will need a shipping address as I am heading into town tomorrow.  So PM shipping addy info.

Looks just like this one in above pic.
