Title: Mediacat
Post by: Fish on July 10, 2013, 05:50:22 pm
I have discussed this with the host.  I will make 3 copies, and send them out to the first 3 posters.  It is the 2012 version, no expiration date.  No money is to change any hands, just want to share the knowledge.

If you want a copy, post here first, then p.m. me your address.

My mediacat shows 2011 also
Title: Re: Mediacat
Post by: Fish on July 11, 2013, 10:28:59 am
Yeah for all that don't know what the mediacat is, it is Stihl's parts lookup and mechanic's manuals on a dvd, which can be loaded onto your computer, and the date will not expire.  The older saw's manuals never made it onto the computer, but the newer saws are.

the 2012 version has the ms211, 231,251,241,261,271,441

If you guys want the 2012 version, let me know.

Thanks again,

I have no idea on that, it is a nice program to have though.  Almost worth buying a $50 computer at a garage sale just to be able to access it.
Title: Re: Mediacat
Post by: 660magnum on July 24, 2013, 04:40:21 pm
The IMAC beyond the all white one should have DOS on them. Just install it in DOS?

You can just copy the desired files with the old MAC and Unix computers.

All the ".pdf" files are in one file . . . SCS-01-2012.STIHL.SCS01-2012(USA).resouces

Here you will find all the service manuals, owners manuals, ipls, and tech bulletins.

Just go to that file and copy all these (or the ones you want) to your hard drive.

Then you will have what is on the Mediacat anyway.

Guess I'm not in the know, what is this?
I did a 'search' on the 'net on Mediacat.....but I don't think I was getting the correct results that I thought I should getting.  I couldn't find info on a DVD, Cd, or downloadable pdf format(or anything else for that matter).

I have a DVD burner in the 'big computer', and a pile of DVD blanks.....and could make the additional copies.

Is there a 'screen shot' floating around of what this is?
Is it 'interactive user' enabled?

Well guys.  I hate to beg here...  Can one of you guys send me back a copy of the 2012 version, so I can restart this sucker???

I sent a copy of the 2013 to those that know, and Stihl has "fixed' their loose ends, so the 2012 is as good as we will get for a while.

If someone can send me a good copy of the 2012,  so I can restart this turd, but it will have to be my last time....

Thanks,

Fish....

farmboy, I'll send one to you to Killiansredleo, I already have your address.  Anyone else, please post up here.  And
anyone up next to send one out, respond here, so we all know that everyone is being taken care of, and this thing can
keep itself going.  I told Farmboy that I would send out 3 more in his stead, as he sent me blanks and more....

This is 2012.  As far as I know, no one has come up with a newer version that doesn't expire at the end of the year.
If you happen to have one, let us know, as there are a lot of new additions in Stihl's lineup, and a newer version would be great.

Another great feature of the program is an item search.  if you have a stihl part that you don't know what it fits, enter the number and it will tell you all of the models that the part goes on.
that coupled with the mechanic manuals, makes it a great addition to anyone's arsenal.

One thing though, I was printing either a whole manual or ipl for someone once, and the final page was solid black, wiped out my ink cartridge.  Must be some perverse German sense of humor!!!!!!

What does Jim?

If I put the husky or poulan  part number in a search on parts sites like above, all I get is husky, poulan and price.  No model numbers like 415 2083 268 etc the part was used on.  Thats what I am looking for.

It is not a great lookup, especially when the brand gets fuzzy, like if the part was used on Poulans, poulan Pros,
Pioneers, paramounts etc.

But most of the time it gives you a model number "where used".

Old Homelites are the worst, but that is true on all Homelite lookups...

I took the copy that I got from KilliansRedLeo, last week,  and copied the disk, compressed the files, split it into
3 sections and uploaded it to my "cloud".

Anyone should be able to download the 3 sections, each about 200 mb.
Use "winrar" or other program to decompress it and
install it onto their computer or burn it to a disk.

Depending upon the speed of your internet service, it should take about 30 minutes/section to download.

Contact me via PM and I will give you the 3 necessary links to download.

Chuck

PS: my "cloud" is TheBox.
Anyone can have a free 50 gb of data storage at The Box.

Chuck, I will check out 'TheBox' we just don't Stihl to get wind of their stuff being up on the internet for free download. They look harshly on that, so do their lawyers! Be careful!

I am not sure that the lawyers would make a big distinction between downloading a file
and mailing a DVD.
But if Kevin would like to delete this and my previous post for legal reasons, I would understand.
But probably this entire thread should be deleted, if that were the case.

Just dont let them catch on where you have it stored.  I knew a guy that had them all uploaded on a site for us to download.
People kept posting the links in the open and next thing you know stihl forced them to remove the uploads or else.

Just keep that info shared in PM's IMO.

Great job Winland and 350.   I'm not puter smart to do that type of stuff so Thanks for helping the more savvy folks out.

Yeah, I don't know if anyone yet has been able to crack the time stamp on the newer versions yet.

It was set it up as an anonymos dvd giveaway, with no money exchange etc., so everyone should be insulated from any

legal trouble.  Can the next ones in line hook this last member up?  Thanks

Yeah, I don't know if anyone yet has been able to crack the time stamp on the newer versions yet.

I use one of the last versions (SCS 03-2012). Time stamp issue can be overcome with a couple of small files (Reset Mediacat). One is a registry file and the other is a substitute loader. Everytime you load mediacat the PC date is clock is set temporarily to January 1 1980. Once you exit Mediacat the date reverts to the real date.

Hello,

I found out about this forum from another forum regarding the 2012 MediaCAT DVD.  I would like to get in line to receive a copy and would be more than happy to send out three copies.  I hope the lack of recent activity is not a sign that this exchange is dead.

Thank you!

The last Mediacat DVD we acquired has expired as of the first of the year. Some of us managed to extract the parts lists and service manuals if you need anything specific.

Thank you 660magnum for the offer and info.  Would it be possible to get part number and parts schematic info for a 2005 Stihl Yard Boss MM55?  Serial # is 266259396 if that helps.

I must have missed the specific complete tiller ipl?

But I could come up with the powerhead ipl as well as the Kombo tiller head parts?

The powerhead is the same as the 38, 45, 46, & 55 series weed whackers

Do you have engine troubles or tine/gearbox troubles?

Look in your Yahoo for the Service manual for the 4140 powerhead and the FS55 series IPL for your part numbers on the engine

Oh yes please. i would love a copy latest one i have is 2003
