Title: Loving my new to me 2159!
Post by: Vance in AK on August 07, 2013, 11:58:11 am
Cut a little over half a cord with it last night to see how it felt & I loved this saw!  With the 24" bar the balance seemed perfect.  Weight seemed reasonable for the power output.  VERY low vibration.  Seemed to sip the fuel.  Cut well!

The only mod I see in the near future is getting rid of the cat muffler since it doesn't sound like they are easily modified.

Considerably more power than my 026 without feeling much heavier.  A weight (and fuel) savings that more than makes up for the power reduction from my 670.  Have to stick a bar on the kinda beat 257 I forgot I had & see how they compare, but I don't remember the 257 having comparable performance.

Don't forget to tach tune after you change the muffler because it more than likely has a limited coil and must be tuned in wood if tuning by ear.

A 24" bar sound slooooow on a Stock 359, unless you use skip chain. Also the saw will be very front heavy, and not handle well at all.

A 16 or 18" is more suitable!

Troll is dead on!  I run 18" 68dl on my 359's or 20" Windsor bar 70dl.  I have 4-24" K095 mt. bars I picked up in a "Lot" I bought.  Pretty much useless IMO.  They just hang on the peg taking up space.

Well I may not like art, but I know what I like! ;)
I appreciate the input but when it comes to balance I have to respectfully disagree.  With the 24" bar it feels very well balanced to me.  I used to spend 8-10 hrs a day running a saw (started logging full time in Oregon the day after I graduated from high school & never looked back for 11 yrs). I ran a lot of different saws & bar chain combos & really came to appreciate a saw that had just enough weight in the nose that when you are holding it by the handlebar it had a SLIGHT nose down balance & that is right where this one is.  My back also appreciates the fact that while I'm limbing & cutting rounds on smaller logs I don't have to be bent over the whole time.

As for speed, I don't have a tach so I don't know what it's turning.   It's a full compliment 3/8 Stihl chisel chain. With the new chain fresh bucking up a 16" spruce I could set the bar on it & let it go & it didn't bog.  No real hardwoods here, mostly spruce & some white birch.
It would be interesting to stick an 18" on it to play, but I'm happy with the 24" it came with.  I know it's the longest Jonsered recommends for the saw but it's working for me so far.

Now to figure out how to mod the muffler...
