There seems to be a bunch of different ways that OEMs quote Max RPMs.
E.G. Husqvarna quotes 2.5K idle, Max power 9K, Max RPMs 12.5K for a 55 saw.
My original manual that came with the saw indicated that these numbers were @ 'no load'. However Husqvarna does not further clarify this statement. This is where the confusion comes in. No load could mean out of the cut but pulling the B/C or without cutting equipment.
On some other saws Stihl and Dolmar the same sort of obfuscation is used.
What are your thoughts?

That saw develops max power at 9kK so that is where it should run under load. The max speed no load, that is out of the cut but with bar and chain attached, is 12K. It can be run at that speed for a brief time to check with a tach but don't pin it for more than a few seconds. And don't do it with the sprocket cover off in case the screw on clutch decides to part company. Don't ask how I know. ::)

Yep that is how I read them If they say 9K that is under load in cut.
12.5K is a no load out of cut with bar and chain on.
