Title: 261 CM
Post by: Old Iron Logging on August 16, 2013, 08:26:04 pm
We can order the M-Tronic 261 now. Seems the regular 261 will be dropped.

So what you think Art.  Test one yet?

Not yet. We have some coming. The 441CMs I tried I did not like. May be good for a firewood cutter. The old logger in me wants limb speed, not blocking power.

It seems that at least here there will be no regular 261, only CM version when old stock is gone. Yesterday the regular 261 was flying out of the warehouse. We could only get 20.

I like the concept of Rev-boost, never ran on to see if it really works.

The 241 is what I am waiting for.

Got a dozen CMs this morning. Ordered regular ones but they are gone. Only CM from now on. Selling for the same price as regular were last week.

If I owned the shop I would have by now. The boss however doesn't allow that.

from what I can see my guess would be they are the same porting as the carb model and unless the bore of the CM is bigger than the carb there should be no more power than the carb model once ported , its just the CM will tune it for you instead of you having to tune the carb yourself

We have only 1 regular 261 left so we will soon see how well the CM works. Costs around $1000 for the diagnostic tools. I wonder how many are ready? We bought ours a year ago.

I have heard that when you gut the stratos out of the motor the CM will not give enough fuel to make the saw run , I would like to take a shot at that sometime

There is definately a 241CM heading my way. That would be a good test.

Don't ever gut the stratos on the 261. The C-M ports great too.

The OE 261 with stratos intact.

The C-M ported.

A muffler modded 372 for comparison.

I see video's so watcha you talking about Randy?

So what do you have to say about the overall of the autotune on the 261?

Post by: Mastermind on September 07, 2013, 01:52:43 pm
I didn't think they would show up.

The auto tune works great.

Yep and seen square chain tested on it too.  ;D

I just wondered if you felt the CM could keep up with even more thrown at it?  You know how the GTG race crowd is and not a true work saw sometimes.  ;)

I don't think there's a lot more in the little saw........not with this carb.

Art, I got 1 coming just not sure when its getting here and its getting gutted and will at a GTG here fairly soon, Can it run as fast as your carb 261 , I'm going to find out here soon , I kind of heard threw the grapevine that there is going to be a 261CM shootout at a GTG and I want to play just to see how far I am behind the rest of the pack

If a CM can beat the 261 I have here it will be some kind of saw. It ran good today, getting stronger each day.

Art does yours have the original OEM carb untouched?  or is it oem that has it been drilled out or bore opened up or both to flow more or a another carb altogether?

Thanks Randy aka MM, thats what I was wondering about.

I think the carb is slightly lighter than stock.  ;)
Title: Re: 261 CM
Post by: EHP on September 07, 2013, 07:24:32 pm
nope unless you did it , its pretty much a stock carb cause I was thinking you were going to be a bigger carb on it , but the saw is lighter than stock as it had just abit more metal removed in the ports, If I found a casting rid in the carb most likely I would of taken it out but thats about it

I never touched it, so its still stock then. I put the filter on when it came back and it has been on ever since. Not going to put the bigger carb on until this winter.

a bigger carb in your area may or may not help you so your going to have to play and fins out , how did the race go today down there

Chris made a 4.4 with the 365. My 261 and 2159 won there class. 357 got beat by Gordies 930. Head to head Gordie and myself are 3 wins each. I will get the times tomorrow from Chris. We raised $4200 for the Fire dept. Chris is the Chief, I am Deputy chief.

see that proves a point right there , I was hoping that I could get a 261 to run with Chris's 346 but was not 100% sure I could do that and still have the 261 be able to cut firewood , I guess its a good thing I did but I'm sure Chris is not to happy about it . The 930 should beat the 357 pretty easy as its alot bigger motor and on pipe like yours and Marcel built the 930 , The 357 does pretty good for what it is

I think the 261 cut 6 flat, 2159 5.6 and 980 5.75. I'd say the 261 tuned out more than ok. Got 4 cords blocked with it as a bonus.

once I get the 261 CM I will see what I can pull out of it

EHP, any luck getting your hands on a 261cm? Waiting to hear your results...

the dealer I'm getting it from has not gotten any in yet , they still have lots of the carb saw at the ware house but once he does I will get it , sure I could go to a different dealer and get one but I like dealing with people I know and this dealer deals with me also . I'm not worried on the CM at all, I can make that CM do whatever I want , they are pretty simple to rework

We still have 12 CMs sitting on the shelf. Sales have slowed on the pro saws. 241 will be here in the spring.

Maybe I have ask this before. But in my feeble mind I dont remember.

Running stock 261's with old carb and one with CM.  Can you tell a difference in the cut stock for stock?

Yes you can.
