Title: Husqvarna 385/390 Sealed Crank Bearings
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on August 28, 2013, 02:52:18 pm
Anyone notice that Husqvarna has opted to use a Sealed two sides (2-rs) bearing on the clutch side of the 385/390 saws? While the flywheel side continues to use the 6203 c3 open bearing and external seal? From what I could measure the sealed bearing seems to be a 6203 c3. Husqvarna gets about 40$US for the part number 503 25 13-01.

Any one understand what is going on here? Sort of reminds me of some sort of Stihl crap with patented bearings........God no I hope not!

and one more

There seems to be some sort on marking on the outer race of one of the bearings but I cannot make it out.

you can buy the same bearing from a bearing dealer for about $4 sometimes it $3 and they come with the seals , I just take the seals out when I put them in , Both husky dealers here buy from the same place and charge you the husky price

I looked a little closer and it appears that the sealed bearing is sealed one side with a rubber seal and some sort of hard plastic material on the other. The hard material is on the inside of the case and the soft rubber is facing the outside.

So you are saying just use the  6203 c3 on both sides and use stand alone seals. I can do that but am wondering what the purpose is on the sealed bearing.

I myself I use the best bearing I can buy without going crazy , like I said I can buy a normal 6203 for about $4 , the bearings I have been running are about $38 and are made by SKF with double the rpm rating and have had zero problems , The 385 is and was the worse bearing saw husky has ever made and if you run a normal 2 stroke oil at 50-1 like you are suppose to you will get about 4 to 6 months of hard timber falling out of the bearings but if same oil at 32-1 we see no bearing trouble at all and saws lasting 2 years at hard use

Thank you! Do you care to share the type and part number of the bearings you are using to get two years of hard use?

I had heard the same thing on the old 372 365 saws on the big rod bearing 50-1 killed them in hard use and husky supposedly said go to at least 40-1.  True or not?    I still run 32-1 in everything, Better safe IMO.

If I had a real part number I would give it to you in a heart beat but I donot have any bearing sitting in front of me as of right now , I have been playing with bikesaws and there bearings just donot fit the chainsaw cases  ;D and yes I use SKF in them as well, my place I buy bearings from keeps the style of bearing I want in stock so I just drive over and get them , I do have  a couple 6203's sitting here that were given to me free but I never used any of them but these are what the Husky dealer uses when you go in and by those $24 a piece bearing , Fag is the bearing . 6203.2RSR.C3 is the number on the bearing and they are about $3 a piece to buy , I have heard they are to be as good of bearing as the bearing Husky uses and for all I know they could be the same bearing

Above you mention bearings with double the rpm rating, those are the ones I an trying to figure out how to order.

Search 6203 bearing skf 24,000 rpm .  Google

I went to the bearing place this morning but I guess cause of the long weekend they were closed  so maybe on Tuesday , I was told you can times the rated rpms by 2 1/2 times to get bearings limit at short runs so if your bearing is rated at 24,000 rpms I donot need to do the math cause 24,000 by itself is more than what a motor will turn in most cases

My experience using regular C3 bearings at high rpm will take the cages out. The plastic cages do less engine damage but things stihl get fouled up in the crankcase for the rod will touch the crankcase. I found it better to keep a close eye on the crank in my pride and joy and change the bearings usually (for me) every year.
