Just saving this. Guy from Calif I think is who it belongs to Poulan S25AV
-
Looks nice but where's the rest of it ???
-
Nice little saw with 38cc and anti vibe. Looks like the same engine as the 205 I have. Reed valve plated cylinder.
That should make for a great trimming saw.
-
Rest of it? ??? Who knows where the AF cover is and b+c, who cares I dont. Maybe you want to donate them to him? ;)
All I know about it is it's a tree trimmers old saw he redone.
-
The owner restored the unit?
-
As far as I know yes. No clue. Just guessing from his pics and post. ??? ???
Thinking this is same saw he posted a pic of in 2011 2 years before the restore and the other pic posted above June 2013.
Same saw no clue just guessing.

Roger a 205 is a great saw, but not of the same family. The 205 is a Micro series, while this saw is of the XXV series. I have a couple yellow/black S25DA's like that, but mine are the non-AV versions.

So even though the one is a micro series and the other a XXV series and they both have a 38cc chrome plated cylinder and reed valve. Does that mean the pistons, cylinders, rings, and reed valves are not interchangeable?

Yep. None of those parts are interchangeable between the two saw families. They sometimes look very similar, come from the same folks, sometimes share displacements (there are 38cc versions of each), and unfortunately sometimes share bits of their model names (25, XXV, Super, Deluxe, etc), further confusing matters.
The shorter list is what IS interchangeable between the two:
-Bars
-Chains
-Spark Plugs
-Duckbill valves
-Fuel filters
-Oil filler caps

Thanks Aaron I never would have guessed that. It seemed to me that they would have used some of the same parts to keep costs down but just goes to show what I know.

Poulan S25 AV I am looking at one and it looks like the AV is only on the top handle and none on the rear handle. Right?

Be a nice one for your son Ron. $85

That's right Kevin. AV on the handlebar only. The only XXV series saws with full AV are the 25-CVA and S25 - CVA.
Same distinction with the Micro series saws. AV branded models only have AV on the handlebar. CVA models (and the 2100/2400/PP236 rear handle saws) have full AV.

Speaking of which,S-25 ,I have one giving me fits. It belongs to my wifes' cousin.
I've had that thing nearly field stripped .Rebuilt the carb, new fuel lines ,plug ,checked the timing ,flipped the reed ..At best I get a poof and have ignited that little rascal about 3 or 4 times from fuel build up,stub,no muffler .
All I can think of is a funky condenser which can cause real strange things to happen .At the moment it's been banned to the shelf until I get my composuer back lest I run over it with my bulldozer .
-
HAHA Al. Sometimes I have to walk away too.
-
Al if you need parts holler. Condenser etc here on shelf.
-
Thanks but I have to get over my pout first . ;D Ha once I got a case of the red azz at a Stihl and that SOB sat on the shelf two years before I calmed down .
The thing about those dang condensers is with the plug out you might get a nice blue spark, looks good .However once you get it above cranking speed it can do funny things .I just went through this on my old Jeep .
Odd in both cases if that is the case .Usually the condenser is either good or bad, spark or no spark .Maybe the condenser witch has been sneaking around my place . :D
-
Condenser gets my vote too.
Re the'put it on the shelf before I smas it' situation.............. been there many times. Right now I have a guy's Mac 4-30A in the corner........to keep it from being smashed with an 8 pound sledge...
