Title: Building up a 372XPW
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on September 17, 2013, 02:12:45 pm
Using all new OEM parts, including a new 51.4mm P/C. Just wondering if anyone has been running one of these without a base gasket, and what the performance of the saw is without the base gasket.

Nominal squish measurements at four points are between .022-.025 with no rings on piston.

You will be fine with your squash clearance. It will run OK
I am not a big fan of gasket in a tube and it is rare when I use it.

Thanks Dan, I feel the same about goo in a tube. However that is what the customer wanted. Could not talk him into cutting the bottom of the jug. What I was really wondering about is how much change in the port timing leaving out the gasket would make.

I measured both an OEM and AM gasket and they are around .010, that added to the no gasket squish of .025 would make squish with gasket .030-.032 after gasket compression.

I have built quite a few of these but always cut the cylinder and used a gasket.

If you have a .022 squash without a gasket you will have the same port timing as you would with a cut base set at .022.

If that's what the customer wants, just do it. They are always right.

I just hate to take them apart and clean off the gasket in a tube.
