Where do you guys get your 288 deflectors at?
-
Jacks small engine or Baileys or local husky dealer. just depending on where and what I am ordering at the time.
-
Thanks Kevin. I did look at Baileys under 288 deflector and nothing came up. Helps to have the PN. ;D
-
I think I have a new unused one here left over. Be prepared they are getting pricey.
-
$14.99 :o
-
Yep, that why I add them to a order. Imagine $7-$8 ship for that only online.
-
Another cheaper husky deflector you could use.

$14.99 :o
Last one I got was $19.00 + taxes, so as I said "last one". >:(
Steve
-
They've went up in the last month or so. I should make my own but it wouldn't look as good as those do on there.
-
I wonder what the $10 husky deflector goes on originally?
This is the one for $10 in the link above. # 503589901
Found it husqvarna 281 http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=husqvarna&mn=281+%282001-10%29&dn=28150011

I'll try that $10.00 one. I'm going to order some parts in a couple of days.
-
Ordered 3 of the 281 deflectors from my local dealer..............$8.37 ea. ;D
Steve
-
Thats a good price. Too bad I can't go to my local Husky dealer because he is an a$$.
-
We have been using 281/288 outlets for MM. They have gotten pricey as of the last price increase. Has anyone considered the outlet for PP475 PN 503-4354-01/02 they are $4.68 @ jacksdmallengines .com? I'm ordering a couple to see whats up. I don't have any of the big Poulans (yet) to see. From the IPL looks like they would be a cheaper alternative.
Shep
-
I have not tried those yet myself but it would be nice to have a cheaper alternative.
-
Yes. Keep us posted!
-
I have a new 281 288 deflector and can pull one off the project PP 475 so you can have a side by side view if you want?
-
FWIW sheet metal deflecters are relatively easy to make .I've done several myself converting Stihl single port mufflers to dual .

Which do you like better?
-
I like the husky deflectors. The poulan ones are huge and made for the front. The husky ones were made for side use, but I have used them to make my own dual port stihl covers from plain jane 066 084 front covers.
Also like Al said you can make your own.
I think someone has the Chinese making them now too and selling them a little cheaper. I will see if I can find the link again.

You could take this idea and make your own. http://cgi.ebay.com/DUAL-PORT-MUFFLER-KIT-Muffler-Not-Included-Kit-/300570308854?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45fb62f0f6

084 cover made like the 066 DP cover without the shield over deflector.

Those look good, I am really thinking about just biting the bullet and purchasing a 288 deflector for the 394.

Used to get AM 254 Husky deflectors for $3.50. No longer available. :(
-
2001 281
Husqvarna
PN# 503589901 EXHAUST OUTLET
Our Price: $8.74
-
This is a homemade deflecter on an 038Av .The combination of holes is a tad large but the saw runs great albeit rather loud .
-
That 281 one is a little smaller on the outlet part than the 288 one. It's more rounded instead of squared up like the 288 one. I've used both and have been using just the 281 deflector recently since the price on the other went up so far.
-
This deflector on the right side in pic was on my 6401 7901 when I bought it. It appears to be a husky?

That looks like the 288 in that picture. Here's a picture with both of them side by side. The one bolted on the muffler is the 288 and the other is a 281.

On the US model 660 i made the original port larger and added another screen and defletor.
Not sure how to add pics yet

Looks like you figured it out. Welcome to the site.
Using outside host is easiest. Like Photobucket.
There is software here too but have to be under 100kb per pic to use.

According to the 288/281 IPL (1998), both saws use the same screw on deflector 503 07 83-01
I would bet though, that through the years, they varied a bit?
-
What's shakin fellers????
-
How about a aftermarket deflector listed for 266 for $5.95 shipping still could be a killer, but just put it with a bigger order or order a bunch at a time.
http://northwoodsaw.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1251
-
I use the 288 deflector and just buy them 10 or more at a time so not to bad on cost , I make lots to but its just so easy welding the 288 deflector on a muffler
-

Just noticed that AFM one listed for 266 = 503 58 99-01 is same part number above for 281 503589901
-
I always make my own deflectors. I use a light gauge galvanized steel. (that's just what I had hardy) First I make a thin cardboard pattern for the shape I need then transfer it to the steel. I use my vice and some thicker plates to do the bending. I'll post some pictures when I get back to my desktop.
-
We will be looking forward to the pictures.

It's real close but there is a difference in all 3 part numbers if I remember right. Spike did a thread showing all the different ones somewhere online. I don't remember what forum it was posted on now.

I searched the 3 sites he post on and came up empty. Was hoping to find that pic.
I have 2 different husky ones on hand right now. So close to each other though it dont matter to me on which I use.
-
I'll search when I get on a computer here shortly. This phone stuff is hard to do all if that.

Holy back from the dead thread posting.
Easier to just bump the thread up for someone asking for info in another thread.

Scott are you still making/selling these deflectors? Need one for my 288XP. If you're not making them then I'll likely get one of the 61/266/181 deflectors from Northwood Saw.
-
Bump for me

Very nice. Be cool to see the die you made.

Nothing special. Just a hunk of alum male side/ female side 1 line up pin, press with 10 ton to keep it flat ish

@Red97 how small is that little one?

around .450 port height.
-
I was guessing like a 55 deflector. Maybe a little smaller.
On left.

Looks to be a little smaller than the 55 port. Fits pretty wel on the smaller stihls 241,261 for a dual port
on 261c

Never done a muffler mod before, so I just guessed at a size/shape for the smaller saws.
-
Good deal!!
-
Nice I will check both out when you get back. Thanks again for sharing this with us.
