I don't know how or where to look to see what model ,its old and as not let me down till now,all off a sudden as you start it goes into high revs I have striped it down to see if any thing is stuck, but not, so must be in carb any advise is welcome ,many thanks

Could be a carb/fuel problem but I would look towards an air leak. If you post some pics we can help with the model if there is no tag.

Do you have a 272 or a 372?
-
all I can find on it is a professional,it also has a metal safety chain stop I mean old with a push down button on it to unlock ,when you say a air leak where from ,it was working fine and sounds great once you start it but it revs strait up when it starts it tries to rev but just revs right up is there a number or a way to tell what it is incase it needs a carb kit
-
Sounds more like a 272?
There's still an air leak between the carburetor and the cylinder body
-
is this a gasket or instant gasket there is two long bolts that run through carb into head ,do I look here for trouble,
-
What makes you think 71cc or 72cc chainsaw? Could it be a 268 266 61 66 etc?
Look like this?

268 272 thread with pics to compare http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-268/

hope some one can say what machine this is i.e husqy what.also how to fix the problem off as you start saw,it then revs as high as it can with no control ,thanks fellers
-
Looks like a 266 (67cc) to me - but the most likely cause still is an air leak!
-
will strip down and try tomorrow many thanks :)

I am not that familiar with that model husky. Check carb connection, impulse line, fuel line. Cylinder bolts, last oil seals that seal around the crankshaft. Do you have the tools to vaccum/pressure check the crankcase? If not there are some guys on here that have some cheap and clever ways to get the tools you need. Hope this gives you a place to start.

thanks for that now I know where to start

yep yep yep ,,,running great there was loose bolts between carb and head ,now runs and starts revs great,,,thanks fellers

don't get all happy and let your guard down yet. you should go back in there and put some new gaskets in there. it may be sealed back up for now, but they will start leaking again. ;)

Well said. +1

Check the case bolts as well, just to make sure!

Looks like a 266 to me also. Intake gaskets are part numbers 501 25 09-02 and 501 51 19-02. The complete gasket set is part number 501 52 26-08.
