Title: Husqvarna 346xp
Post by: Cut4fun . on April 17, 2011, 12:09:37 pm
What is the bore of the new NE husqvarna 346? I know the OE 346 was 42mm and I was thinking new was 44mm, but I seen a AFM piston that said 44.3mm  ???.

My 346 NE owner manual says 50cc at 44.3 mm bore.

44.3mm is correct - stroke is 32.5.

44.3mm is correct - stroke is 32.5.

Thanks Nikko.

Bumping for someone wondering bore and stroke of the new 50.1cc 346xp

44.3mm bore and 32.5mm stroke = 50.1cc , where a legal 3ci is 44mm bore and 32mm stroke 49cc.  ;)

If we wanted to get nitty gritty on numbers.

44.3mm x 32.5mm =  50.11    406863372745

44mm x 32.5mm =  49.43    7621019672136

44mm x 32mm =  48.67     704223475409

3 cubic inch =  49.16    1192

I have allways believed the 590 and 2051 were 50.9cc, despite some statements saying 50.7 or 50.8.

Regarding the Dolmar, I have never seen any statements from Dolmar regarding the exact bore/stroke, but they have stated anything from 49.9 to 50.7 regarding the cc, depending on which document you are looking in.
My guess is that the bore is closer to 45 than it is to 44mm, and the stroke 32 - but the exact bore is an open question.....

I assume these saws are just over 50cc because of the way EPA rules works.

Was going to test the new rollernose bar I just finished fitting to the husky with a ATOP square chain I did up. But noticed it was having a problem with the throttle.

Same thing had happen at a racing gtg on my 357xp 56.5cc and I ALMOST got beat by a ported big bore 361 64cc or so. Had to feather the throttle to keep it running to get my 2 or 3 cuts off. Let off throttle and she dies.

Culprit again. Hiding under carb area going to tank.  Should also check impulse lines when you have this happen.

You can see silver tool inside line through cracks.

Sorry my mind wasnt on the chain on this one.  I'll try and get some pics of atop chain next time out. Gullets still need cleaned, being I dont follow the books steps.

Just using square because I have a roll of CL on the shelf. I'll ground round in the future when I am to lazy.

I just noticed something I have never had happen before. My OE 346 still has the plastic intake clamp. Never had a problem with it so never replaced it with the updated intake and clamp.
Today while cleaning the saw up to put back on the shelf I noticed the plastic clamp had come undone. Never noticed any troubles from air leak around intake, but I also hadnt mad any long extended cuts with it last time using.

Anyone else ever have the plastic intake clamp come undone?

Just looking at some before and after 346 video's.  Any info Scott?   Do you remember what you had 346 tuned at stock and what chain 325 or 3/8? Then modded?

I've seen a few clamps come undone. The most common problem though is that a clamp which appears to be clamped is very loose. You can test this without taking anything apart by moving the partition wall back and forth. Some are still tight, but some are obviously very loose with plenty of movement. If that's the case, ya gotta change it.  :)

Well I just could say no as another NE 346xp 2011 fell into my lap sort of.

Heck I could have had its cousin the 2011 353 e-tech for a heck of a deal too. But I was happy just walking away with this one for now.  ;)

These are pics as bought, no clean up for pics.

looks like a nice clean 346XP. Reminds me that I have to take another look at my 346. Mine with it's erratic running condition and having tried new carb, hoses, clamp etc. I have to try swapping my 372 ignition module onto it to see if it remedies the problem.
But I will have to wait though, I still have a couple more days left down here in southern Mexico.............the Beer and margaritas  are very good at this time of year ;)

Made alittle road trip to pick up a saw and do some fishing yesterday evening. Found a homeowner owned OE 346xp. Said he bought a 465 and hadnt used it in over a year so it was time to go. Started up in 3 pulls and restarted in 1. Good enough for me to bring back. Now to check over before moving it to next owner. 50 350 351 353 346. All to be relocated.  :P

351 353 gone but good thing Dave hadnt picked up the 346 yet.

Check them saws out if you can. Especially when buying off all the online markets out there now days.

346 comes back stolen I drove up to BG to meet a guy to buy. So now meeting a detective from MI sheriff to hand it over as evidence against the guy. So heading back up to BG and hoping to be put on a list for retribution.

Turns out it was a  stepson and had took 3 saws in MI. The grandpa had died and within 1 day was broke in to.

Feel for the dad the executor of the estate knowing he has a pos for a stepson.  Said he would make it right.

Now the long wait begins to see if I get my $ back.

Looks like John Lambert up in Yukon Canada aka gypo logger is selling his piped OE 346 I remember years back.
Not much left of it now days. Just saving the pics.

= John - On the chopping block today is a nitro 346 build by Ed Heard in 2002 comes with Tilly HS off husky 181. Missing a few basic parts.
Would prefer to sell to someone who knows what they’re looking at. Used only at a handful of races.
Comes with tuned pipe.
