I think you are right, a collector buddy of mine brought one over a couple of months ago. Ran but the left side bar is weird!

It's a Porter Cable alright.  They sure knew how to make unbalanced and awkward tools which would run and run, lasting for two long generations, it feels like forever.   

I'm that set upon second generation, I have the reciprocating buck saw version of the same old saw.   It runs ok, it's too much work to use it. 

Mine doesn't look like it sat in the corner of a paint booth catching the over spray for the last 30 years.

I had one of their skill saws too.  One needed to be quite skilled to use it.  I described it as chubby.  When it grew legs and walked off somehow I wasn't all that upset.

I think you have to remember the time period as to the design .Everybody and his cousin got into making  chainsaws and lawn mowers .I have an old Lombard from that period and believe me it's no speed demon .It would be however a step above a two man cross cut saw .Definitely a collectors item and certainly not a go to saw .
