I had ran Larry's Solo Twin at a GTG in 2007. One of the few vintage saws that has impressed me.
I tried to find the zippy video of it, but that is no longer around I guess. So here is a youtube solo video I dug up to hear.

I am surprised by the RPM's that saw holds in the wood. Do you know if that saw is stock?

Well I'd say beyond a doubt that one has enough oil in the mix.

I too ran the twin Larry S has .It was not the fastest saw I ever ran however with perhaps the exception of an 090 Stihl  reworked by Ken Dunn it was the most effortless saw under load . A cut though a big log was childs play for it .

Now that the owner let the cat out of the bag. I can tell you here too.  The solo twins I posted about back in May. 1 is 110cc solo twin which is pretty dang rare and he told me the story behind them. The other is the 100cc solo twin we normally see.

I have knew about a friend having 4 solo twins for awhile and  2 of them new as pulling out of the box.  ;)

I'm sure Dennis posted those pics some years back on race saws, they are indeed classic examples of the type.
I have hear stories of those saws from old log fallers but never used one myself.

Dennis may of posted them back then. But they are Rick Helsel's saws.

I love that twin cylinder sound.  That's a big ticket model that I might have to pony up for some day.  I've ran the Echo twin, and while it's cool..............it doesn't do it for me.  Since it's a simultaneous firing twin, it sounds just like a single to my ear.  It is a very smooth saw and a cool piece of engineering though...

Right!

The Echo Twin is nice but the Solo has that magic twin sound.

As I had mentioned before I had ran Larry S's twin .It wasn't the fastest saw of that displacement but it cut effortlessly and very smoothly .It's a very collectable saw to say the least .

Yes your right Al nice saw for its day but outclassed today and far too heavy I have a couple here and a half a twin which needs a few bits to finish it off

Looking at that IPL it's about as easy to read as Partner . Meaning it's rather jumbled up IMO .It's all there if you can figure it out I guess .As for twin  I did run one ,very smooth saw .

I’ll take the saw when he’s done with it. He can keep the pipes. Looks cool , and like it’s labor intensive. Unless you soup the engine up I can’t believe it would make much difference. And, if you soup the engine up you’re going to need spares. I wonder why he went to so much trouble.

I wouldnt do it to a solo either. But to each their own.

You do know his CPI pipes when put on a stock 660 showed gains of 58% right?  Joe dynoed before and after of just swapping his pipe on a stock saw. Was crazy % of gains.

No I dont think a solo twin would have that kind of gains but it is his saw to play with.
