I have a chance to get a Sachs Dolmar 143 on a trade and I was wondering if anyone can tell me some specs on the Sachs Dolmar 143. Basically Just wonder if it would make a good cookie cutter
Cut4fun its the same saw I sent you the link to. A friend of mine bought it today I have not seen it yet but said it has lots of compression and it starts and stalls.

Its 95cc old school. May run a lower RPM than a 066 but have a lot of torque? Don't rule out a 8 Pin rim?
Cut4fun had a old Echo 70cc class saw monster that he wanted to run against my Dolmar 6800. The Echo had a 8 pin rim. It was noticeable that the Echo was a low rpm engine and the Dolmar 6800 turned more like 9000 in the cut with a 7 pin rim. Though the Echo sounded much slower, both saws were practically the same speed in the cut.
Just keep that in mind when comparing like the Sachs Dolmar 143 with a 066 Stihl which are both about the same size.

Anybody want to give me some secrets on some mods for this saw? It has an 8 tooth sprocket on it now and there seems be no end to power. I tried it out in a big block of rock maple yesterday and it really surprised me. But I want more power/speed ;D
would it make a good race saw? the race i go to we are all amateurs in a friends back yard nothing to serious

Cut4fun back in his chainsaw race days would video his log cuts and then stopwatch the videos to see how he was doing with his changes.
Some of the technique is in your performance. You got to hit the log where you want to and cut straight.
More of the technique is the chain. It has to be sharp with an aggressive hook. The last sharpening on a old chain cuts the best.

I have a strong running 143 as well and have ran a 10pin sprocket on it just to play and it pulled it just fine. What spec of chain will you be running? Also almost no one makes bars for these anymore but large mount stihl (above 066,660 or 14mm slot) will fit.

Has anybody ever tried to "soup" up one of these? At only 1hp sae less than the 166 and many lbs lighter this saw looks to have a more impressive power/weight ratio than the 166. I wish that mine had a compression release because it can hurt if you don't get a good grip!

The 143 has 95cc and for sure is a beast. As handy as a Dolmar 133, this is almost 100cc-class!
The power cutter type 343 has the same basis, I repaired and tested one of these recently.
However, the crank is the same as in the 133 super. And the 133 super is basically an ordinary 133 with a different piston and slightly higher compression.
While the 143 beeing somehow the "dual-pimped" Dolmar 133, at least back home in Germany a few crank-failures have been reported due to fatigue of material! (The 133 super/143 crank is actually different from the ordinary 133-crank because they switched to roller bearings at that time, with a different clearance on the crank. The main bearing of the rod is basically the same)
The 143 is one of the saws I would inspect very carefully when making a trade, just checking for not having a scored piston might not be enough. And the lower hours the better.

Reminds me of my 1997 Dolmar 115i and 6800iH only the 143 is much bigger. They are just favorites in the woods.

I ran a 143 (and a 133 and a 166) at the PNW GTG last year. Of the three, the 143 impressed me the most. I expected the 166 to be a big heavy torque monster (and it delivered). Wasn't expecting so much out of the 143 (which is noticeably lighter than a 152/153/166). I was very impressed. Gotta get/build me a SD143 some day....

MX stood for Modified Xtra it was the second generation of the 143 they beefed up the main bearings and added a plastic fuel/oil tank in lew of the Mag one.
