Title: Who cuts regularly with a Mac 10-10?
Post by: bustedknuckles on December 20, 2013, 05:08:22 pm
I know the Mac 10-10 was widely distributed and many were made and are still out there. Lots of you have them. I'm wondering however how many are still in active service? ie, Not talking about those that take a half dozen saws out once and a while and run them just because. I'm referring to someone that goes out to cut their firewood with one and that is their primary tool.

I think that because they're cheap to acquire, simple to work on and pretty powerful for their size, they make a good back up or truck saw. Without the anti-vibe and chain brake, to me they're not too useful for day to day cutting (in light of what is currently available)

I've got a couple of them that I've messed with some and plan on divesting myself of them soon. I don't personally know of anyone that actually uses one to cut with frequently but there must be someone out there that does. Speak up!

I do !
I have a Mac 10-10 automatic  that was my dad saw.
Every year we use the saw to cut fire wood , fence posts  , slabs off the mill and whatever else needs cutting.
We use old equipment , old vehicles, old chainsaws , old everything . I also have two old Stihl model 41's and a Homelite  XL12 that are used regularly .
I am a retired mechanic by trade .So , as long as parts are available I can , and will,  keep all the old stuff running.
I feel that maybe the old stuff may not be the easiest stuff to use , but it is easier to keep running and easier on my pocket.  ;D    I  am old too ! so it all fits !!!    ;D !!!

I run my PM-700 quite a bit.  Great saw.  Still useful.  Just a more poweful version of a 10-10 really.  Mine has a chainbrake.

I have I think 5 10-10's.One looks like a new one very low hours probabley one of the last ever built ,I only run it enough to keep it limbered up .Another does get some use ,runs well but like said does not have the power of a 700 which is the same weight . A 700 will hold it's own with a modern saw ,a 10-10 won't .Which is not saying they aren't  dependable old saws which they are if in a good condition of tune .

I cut regularly with my 10 series saws will usually take 3 or 4 with me and cut with each until they are blunt then use the next. The promac 700 is great . But when just cutting cyprus the 10 10s with 16 inch bar just run on and on
