Title: explanation of Meteor codes
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on February 05, 2014, 11:42:09 am
Looked everywhere, cannot find a explanation of the codes Meteor uses to describe, such things as the piston top design and such. Any one got that info? Some are coded 'P' others 'B 1,3'. Flat top in Italian is ' cima piatta' e.g. 'top flat' not much help but the 'P' designation could mean 'flat'!

i aksed sort of the same question on a.s.(s); a long time ago and never had much traffic.
I emailed them a while back (a few years ago) asking pretty much the same question. never heard a response from them. it was for a Husqvarna piston. mine had a '3' on the top, and so did the meteor. but the meteor also had a 'p' beside the '3'. it was a perfect fit and the saw ran perfectly fine no issues.  what i figure, and this is just a shot in the dark guess, and I hope if I'm wrong that somebody can correct me. they might be in relation to cylinder sizing like what the oem sometimes does as a match-up. maybe?

Well, I think I may have figured out the answer by association IMHO! Stihl 028S has a 3mm pop-up and is coded as having a top type of 'B-3' in the Meteor catalog, I suspect this means 'dome 3mm' other Stihl pistons with a dome top are coded 'B-1,3' meaning dome of 1.3mm. IIRC Husqvarna has never used a dome piston in any of their saws all have been flat-top, Meteor has all Husqvarna pistons as having a 'P' as the top type.

I have a domed Meteor B-1,3 piston in my Dolmar 115. Dolmar never had a domed piston in the 111/115. The saw runs good.

I think "P" pistons are machined shiny flat top.
