Was just looking for weight specs and come across this link. http://outdoor-power-equipment.net/chainsaw-gas/partner/540/
If memory is right partner 540 was open port and partner 5500 was closed port like its cousin poulan pro 325.
I think Mark had a 5500 and 540 shipped in from overseas to add to his saw collection.

I don't think I have seen a open port on a 5500/540 yet.
All piston ported/closed port. But they have cuts in case for open ports, but not in gasket and cylinder.
First 5000 and 500 was open ports. Last 500 was piston ported as well as 5000.
A bit confusing about the cuts in case for transfers...

The open port 5000 with Ignitron sticker I had with the blue type coil not black like the later ones was one of my strongest runners.

According to IPLs the P540 share the 46mm open port top end with the Husky 55, as do the P543.

Is that all you got? You can't be seriously telling me you rather trust these numbers you find on internet sales sites than the knowledge, info and saws we have on shelf!
You can't use a non ported piston in a cylinder meant to use ported pistons. Transference won't work! Nothing can come up from case.
You cant put a 44 piston in a 444, you can't put a 55 in a 254 or 2054/2055.
If it is finger ported you might get away with lost performance but closed port cylinders will not run unless piston is ported!

This guy is selling a 55 piston as 2054 piston. The poor bastard buying it will need a ported piston.
They have same number but in two seperate brands. It is not same piston used in them!

Mark opened his 540 up for a look see. Pics have disappeared showing open port.
I recieved this the other day, came from europe.
It appears to be a very late model 540 made in 01. It seems to be in very good original lightly used conditon.
From what I know, this is the semi pro version of the 5500 and uses a 46mm open port cyl. In fact the P/C part number for this is the same one used on a Husqvarna 55.
Got it tore down today for some needed cleaning and found it to be in excellent shape, P/C are like new and still.
Since part number comes back to 55 46mm that info is left up. Wrong posting with 2054 pic removed.

I had a lot of espereza on these models, especially partner widespread. together with jonsered 490-590
5000 5500 490 590 porte closed cylinder with base pairing through thick thermal insulating material (Bakelite) while the semi pro 500-540 doors open.
colindro same piston dle huski 50-51 and then 55 with crankshaft flywheel and frizione.a times carburetor.
Me I dont care one way or another. IPL pic shows closed, the part numbers say open. I'll never see the saw to pull apart so done deal for me.
