Post by: Cut4fun on May 28, 2011, 10:34:55 am
About time they recalled those  :-X :-X :-X flippy caps on some models.

The stihl  recall  http://www.stihlusa.com/recalls/recall_toolless_cap/FAQ/index.html

The recall dont include chainsaws, here is the model numbers listed on recall.

http://www.stihlusa.com/recalls/recall_toolless_cap/

Here is a video showing the replacement cap Baileys has for the chainsaws.

I looked on Baileys site but couldn't find it .

They dont usually make a video and post it unless they are ready to sale. I bet these are something they had made up for the chainsaws.

As soon as I find out out more I will update.

I'll have to say that Baileys have had some neat stuff but some just dissappeared after a while .

Like those spring loaded starter handles that Greg Grande shipped to Brad  that were given away at Bill Poors . They worked great but I can't find them anywhere .

I dont know if they have just the handle part anymore. But this might be the complete set up for 3.5mm.

Stihl  ;D pricey but is half the price of the stihl oem ones.

I have no clue what mm this one fits.   http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=QS+0000+190+3402&catID=

I don't know why in the world some of the items leave a lot to guess work .They used to be really good at givings spectifics about  items but here of late have slipped some .

It could be that Stihl being Stihl whines about anything they feel is infringement weather it is or not . However Oregon makes all kinds of aftermarket devices for that brand of saw .

Al there was 2 bags of just the handles at that one gtg we were at, probably 2 different sizes. Did they all disappear?

Those were pretty much all given away at that event . At that period of time you could find them on Baileys site and they weren't 19 bucks a pop either, about half that .

If you want Al i have a brand new one that you can have if you PM me your address. I have no need for it and i like the stihl 460 rescue handles better and there only $5.00. The handle says elastomer 3.5 mm.

Post by: Al Smith on May 29, 2011, 05:38:52 pm
Thanks but no .I have a couple little ones on the 200T's plus rescue saw handles on an 038 Mag, 2100 Husky and 084 Stihl already .

The 200 really didn't need the spring gizmo but the other three are just a tad too much comp for my old bod .Actually that 2100 is too much for a young man ,that thing should have had a decomp from the get  go .

Back to the subject .I'd really be interested in the cap if I could find a few .It's a lot better than cussing those OEM flippys .Not in my opinion one of Stihls better ideas .

Been running them since they came out and have had none break or none ever dump gas or oil from not locking. That is in pro use. Al, its a simple cap, try to figure it out, its not hard. But, we get the high quality German made cap, not the cheap US ones. Just kidding Al.

I don't know if they are made in Germany or China . Many components are of Pacific rim origin .

Since this thread was started it came to my attention the failure of flippys was the fact the o-ring swelled up .

I had found the genaric size and put it on several sites .A bag of them sells for peanuts, cheap .I assume the ethanol in the gas causes the buna-n o-ring to loose elasticity  over time .

My 361 had some issues with the original gas cap, never dumped it but sometimes the thing would take 5 or more tries to get it. Then one day it just broke. Since replacing no issues at all. Got em on 3 Stihls.

I have flippy caps on a couple Stihls. Never any problem.

Sure had trouble with a lightly used Sthil 025. It dumped fuel on me #*^*. I tighten the old caps with the scrench.

Thanks Gregg, Received today.

Gregg at Left Coast Supplies has been working on having the stihl flippy cap replacements made for some time now. These will be sold here in the US at LCS.

Will be for individual sell, not having to buy whole crankcases for a set like those others.

Coming real soon FS, here is one I received.

nope no button, no moving parts at all just insert and twist
I like the ones I am chasing better but am planning to sell the Gregg-Cap.  It feels solid and seals strongly, heck just the hate-stream flippy rage amongst sawyers will guarantee vigorous sales :)
In more annoying news the Farmertec 290 crankcase can only use the special twistys so when I steal a pair for a project saw I cant even sell the crankcase for parts :(
fliipys caps yeeeaaaaaaah

Dave, can you expand on the Farmertec crankcases re the fuel caps? Not following what you're saying.
Title: Re: stihl flippy cap replacements
Post by: DefinitiveDave on January 26, 2016, 07:33:35 am
sorry bout that
The caps I have been chasing are available from farmertec ONLY with a replacement aftermarket ms290 (et al.) crankcase assembly.
I discovered late last week that these crankcases will only accept the special non-flippys and wont use any other caps at all.
I was planning to sell the FT 290 crankcases with regular flippys and keep the uber cool caps for my own projects, but now that wont work.
I haven't given up on my favorites yet, meanwhile it looks like the Gregg-cap will be available in both flippy sizes in  the nearish future :)
one day will be free of the tyranny and oppression that these flippy caps have burdened us with and can once again turn our full attention to the serious, ctitical oil type/ratio question :)

Good feedback so far as the test 440 just came back in.  Only thing I noticed before it was sent out. The plastic on the tank retainer part  Y inside tank breaks easy.

Wonder if they could make them to use the ball like oem does instead.

Also I have request for the small oiler cap style like on the stihl MS211. Are those going to be made in replacement too?

I modded this one while it was here. It is now like OEM where I could use the slot in tank to hang from.

Howdy,
Well, the fuel caps are in. The oil caps are still in process. Our developer will be getting them on the website this weekend. The caps will be $7.50 each if you drop them in the cart on our website. I know there'll be a lot of people who just want to order caps. So, the best way I can work this if you're ordering caps only is for quantities of 1 or 2 they'll be $10.00 each with shipping included. Any order for 3 or more will be $7.50 each with shipping included. If anybody wants to go by Paypal, contact me with a USPS ship to address, and a e-mail address. I'll send you an invoice you can pay.
Regards
Gregg

How are these left coast flippy cap replacements holding up? I had a flippy cap break on a low hour saw, so now I am not a fan of them. It is pretty aggravating to have a good running saw down because of a gas cap.

I started just ordering the ones Dave at CCC on ebay sold myself. The locals liked the ease of those best.  Plust they were only like 12 a pair shipped.

Do those style stay tight Cut?

I was going to order the ones left coast has, but the shipping is something ridiculous. I know if you call, they can ship small orders USPS at a lower cost. I called them and immediately music played on the phone. Then it said trying to connect and then it sent me to a voicemail box. I thought this sounded strange, so I hung up and checked to make sure I called the right number. I had called the right number so I called back and left a message. That was Tuesday and I never heard anything back. Is Left Coast still in business?

LCS was last I called. Could be on a all week vacation for Thanksgiving time.
Yep on giving crazy shipping quotes on their website. I call and talk to Gregg or another when I do orders with them.

Yes the ones at Daves CCC stay tight too. Never heard any firewood cutters saying they knocked on loose. Plus one logger I know tried them and he never said anything about coming loose. His feedback was in thread on them.

i have a km56 kombi engine but it does not have a flippy cap and neither does my km94. only the pruner attachment has a flippy cap.
it might be down to the fact that im im the UK and the spec is different
