This is a NOS 365 Special bottom end, Hyway 52mm BB kit with a Stihl 064 piston 8 tooth sprocket 16 inch .375x.050 chain. Blows 195PSI and will do 12,800 in the cut. Next it gets a MM and a Walbro RWJ-4-1 carb.

Question(s):

Going all out on a saw like this, what is the expected 'life span' of the saw if used on a regular basis?(as in everyday for a worksaw-I'm on a saw handle maybe 6.75hrs a day cutting)

If it's not 'rude', what kind if cha-ching do you have in this one so far?

Lastly, got any video?  Would love to hear this one eatting a tree stump!

Hey Scott! In answer to your questions I must first say that this is not a GTG toy or a stock class cookie cutter. It performs very well for what it is. All but a few of my customers are folks that make a living with their saws, so that is what I build 'Work Saws'. I can and sometimes do build ported run on the edge hot rods but only perhaps two or three a year.

This is as much performance as I can cram into a saw by using only off-the-shelf easily obtainable parts, that way should something go wrong you do not have to send it off to someone to get it repaired and wait. In the case of the one pictured it is mine. I just built it because everytime someone sees me running one like it they want to buy it, and that happens all the time. I think this is the fourth or fifth one I have built, all the others have been sold and have not come back. IIRC I had been running the one previous to this for about 3 years before someone just had to have it. I heat my shop with wood and I build furniture for a hobby so the saws get quite a bit of use.

I think that I have about 5-700.00 in this one. You can actually build these things yourself it is not rocket science. All it takes is a decent bottom end and the aftermarket parts (372BB Kit and the Stihl 064 piston). I look for raw gassed low hour saws as the base. I do all new  greater than 24000 rpm certified SKF or Nachi bearings, double lip seals, and just build the saw up from parts. I bought out a guy who was retiring parts inventory. This particular bottom end was a NOS 365 Special that he had been stealing parts off of for years. That is why it has the tag on it.

If you would like to build one I would be glad to help you do the work yourself.

Your biggest expense is going to be the four factory tools required to split the cases and put them together again.

I did do a little grinding on the saw, matched the jug to the cases, so no steps in the TP area and got rid of the casting marks in the IP and EP areas. However that is it, no port timing changes. OBTW this saw runs a base gasket to adjust the squish because the Stihl piston is a wee bit taller than the one supplied with the BB kit. In this saw the 064 piston is from Meteor. I have built them using Stihl OEM 064 pistons however the additional cost of the OEM piston is not justified by any performance gain over the Meteor.

Please make us a video of the saw. I would like to see the the 13800. in the cut.

'' OBTW this saw runs a base gasket to adjust the squish because the Stihl piston is a wee bit taller than the one supplied with the BB kit. In this saw the 064 piston is from Meteor''

I built the exact same saw, but with no base gasket, squish is .025.  Kinda interesting on the big variance of deck heights on these ( husqvarna) saws.  I see this a lot.

195 psi, is that with extra oil in the jug to seal the rings or just the premix?, I'm blowing 175 psi, with just pre mix,

The saw has an OEM Stihl 064 piston which is 1.3 or so mm taller in compression height than the BB 52mm piston in the Hyway BB kit. (0.03937x1.3mm=.05118) now if you subtract target squish of 0.020 you end up with .03118 so I had to add a gasket of 0.030 in order to get to my target squish of 0.020. I agree with you about the variance however every one of these that I do is different, my suspensions are that the variances we are seeing is in the cylinder/piston sets not so much the saws. The Stihl piston has a two ring design and on this saw I deleted the bottom ring, which I don't normally do, I did it just to see what would happen.

The saw has a tank or so through it and the compression was at 180 before it got run now is at 194-5.

AlSled, did you use the Stihl piston or the one from the BB kit? I cannot remember.

Title: Re: Somebody wanted pictures of my firewood saw, don't remember who it was.

Meteor piston.

Cool, I have to build two more of those saws for customers, and just ordered the C/P kits. Both Hyway, I will try to get an accurate deck to squish band edge height measurement on them. Perhaps that will shed some light on the situation.

Like I said before every one of these I do is a little different on achieving optimal squish! ???

Any one else have any ideas on what Alan and I are both noticing?

365 special.    I just rebuilt 4 350's.  they varied from .028 to .035 with no base gasket.

Hey Al do you have a 350 muffler around that you could measure the CTC spacing of the muffler bolt holes?

You mentioned a muffler mod & rwj carb, are you just getting the china can mufflers & where are you getting the carbs & or intake pieces if i might ask?  Thanks
Title: Re: Somebody wanted pictures of my firewood saw, don't remember who it was.
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on February 20, 2014, 12:03:28 pm
Yes I usually use the Hyway empty can mufflers from HLS Pro Parts (mention this site and you get a 10% discount on your order). The intake parts from PartsTree.com and the RWJ-4 carbs from CaptNeversail on ebay. His name is Carl Neilson and he will order and ship you whatever you want. Walbro RWJ-4 carbs are no longer made by Walbro, now made by Tillotson new name is RWJ-4-1.

ok thanks, does it matter if its the side pipe one or the top exit muffler?
Title: Re: Somebody wanted pictures of my firewood saw, don't remember who it was.
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on February 20, 2014, 12:24:38 pm
The side pipe is the EU muffler, you do not want that, the top exit is the empty can! If you are going to do the RWJ-4 carb you will need bits and pieces from the 372XT and 385XP intake tracts in order to make everything fit correctly and the blue choke control off the 365/372XT.

How do you mention this site on checkout at HSL?

Is the bottom end the same as a 362xp? We have a 2005 362xp at work the only difference I see in the specs is a 48mm bore on a 365, and 47mm bore on a 362xp.

The Husqvarna 362 normally has a Koben Schmidt cylinder and piston that is a single transfer on each side but is closed port.

The bottom ends are different on the straight 362 as it has a small mount bar and inboard chain adjuster.
There was a 362 XP made a few years ago that had the large mount bar and outboard chain adjuster in the cover

Inflammatory and hypocritical!

Terry and I both didn't fall off of the turnip truck just yesterday. I feel that the main part in question is that fact that the person that started this thread made the claim that his saw would hold 13500 rpm in the cut. I asked for a video and he changed his tune to 12500, claiming it was a typo. He wants all of the people that come to this forum to think he is a first class saw guru. I talked with him on the phone and I really don't think he is at all.

Alan, no need to measure, the 288 deflector bolt pattern is close enough to work but the exhaust outlet direction options are less than desirable.

You did not miss anything just a guy expressing his 1st amendment rights.

As far as Tim goes.  I've met him a few times at his shop. He knows what's he's doing. As far as the saw with a bb  kit and still piston, I also built one.  I don't have a tach, but this saw has the best throttle response compared to my 390 or 394.  Using the feel o meter when cutting, you can tell it is spinning some rpm.      As far as a typo, Tim does not have the best vision.   Tim send me that muffler, ill dual port the **** for ya!!!  To tell you the truth, I think your better off just making the existing hole bigger. Either wAy let me know.

Al, it is not my saw it belongs to another member here JohnG28, who saw one I did on a 262 and we were exploring options to use on his 350. Check out this thread:

 http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husky-350-mod-options/  (http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husky-350-mod-options/)

You should post a picture of the one you did on one of your 350s, perhaps that will do it for him.

Dan you know my #. Not a one way street if you need to talk.

Also  mods know to remove anything outright malicious about any member here.  I WILL NOT let this be another AS.

Not to you Dan,
Mentioning folks copying. Maybe someone better look in the mirror.  I remember where they started. Funny how Helsel's carb info now gets sold on AS. Plus other stuff.

Mods will continue  to remove post like those that were posted and removed. IF folks dont like it they can leave.  No problem. This is a adult site for folks needing help on repairs.
