Title: 020 AVP Vintage
Post by: brettl on February 19, 2014, 04:14:56 pm
I just got this saw from a man who was the original owner and says it's seen a lot of use and now it just warms up and dies. I think it's the AVP Vintage listed on Bill's Saw Shop but at this time I have no way of taking a picture. The rear handle is colored black with "Professional" molded in cursive, orange metal clutch cover with 020AV cast on, rest of the case white metal, white plastic guard but no chain brake. Assuming the saws piston and/or cylinder is indeed worn out, I'd like to know if it shares piston and cylinder with any other Stihl saws or if any other top ends will bolt on. Thanks

I have these two saws

And I have rob parts from one saw to fix the other one - top handle is from the 70's and the rear handle is from the 80's

I had to look that one up .Evidentley it has a 38 mm bore ,32 cc where as the 020AVS ,rear and top handle are 40 mm bore .I have one of those myself .

More than likely the piston /cylinder is okay.Might just be a seal or a screwed up carb .

That's the good news .Assuming it's akin to the 020AVS top handle they are a beech to work on .Second only to a Mini Mac .That's the bad news .

Great looking saws! That rear handle looks just like mine with the exception of the hand guard. Mine has the white plastic guard. Prices I'm seeing on piston and cylinders are awful high but maybe I'll get lucky and it will just need piston and rings, hopes aren't real high though. It sounds like he used this saw as hard as most of us use 50cc and 60cc saws.

Glad to see you're post Al and sure hope you're right.

They are a pain to work on

The handles have been changed between a couple different saws :)
