Title: Poulan 3316 chain brake
Post by: gunrac on March 02, 2014, 06:17:48 pm
I haven't run this saw myself for sometime, until the other day. Noticed the chain brake would not lock up. Will probably tear into it tomorrow. It acts like the band is unhooked or it may be broken. Been looking for some schematics, or a diagram. Are they known to break? If it was just me running it, I wouldn't be to concerned. ......but this saw is usually parked close to the chipper for others to use.

One thing you might check since you do not always run it, is to see if someone ran it with the brake on and broke the band.   Look for signs like melted plastic when you pull the clutch cover off.

Ya, I anticipate the band is most likely to be broke.  At a quick glance, the Poulan is more of a different type set up, then I'm use to seeing.....will know after while. Should be the easy part of my day... Stumper, fuel tank is loaded w/water.......ugh

Yikes how does water get in there.

I tried to find a parts list for The 3316 but could not.   I could find the 3314 parts list and maybe the brake will be the same.

Sounds like they are both the same one has a 16" bar and the other a 14" bar.

My bad......it is the 3314.......It is indeed broke.......part #35, also in need of the oil filler cap....let me know Kevin, if you might have these laying around. If not, can you let me know who to go thru to order em'?

After they boosted my equipment batteries, I put a lock gas cap's on chipper an stumper......someone must have turned it enough to break the seal, and w/all the snow laying on it all winter, it leached in big time. Filled a 1/2 gal. glass jug, 2 different times.....at least 30% water ......it did get better, just a touch of water.....Mixed used oil with it, and I'll just give it to a buddy to start brush fires with. He operates a track hoe bus. and cleans a lot of ditches....Lost approx. 10 gal. of fuel......
