Title: opinions on piston rings.....dolmar 143
Post by: fordfairlane78 on March 14, 2014, 06:38:51 am
I have a 143 that I think I can salvage with a little smoothing on the piston and a new set of rings... i haven't done much searching but can any set of 55mm rings as long as they are the same thickness be used in a chainsaw?  It seems that many 2stroke dirt bikes used 55mm rings and from what little searching I've done are cheaper and easier to find. ...opinions?

I used husky 394 rings in my one of my dolmar 166.  So I would say yes.

55mm by 1.5mm or 1.2mm  ?  Husky 390 has 1.2mm

The only problem you might encounter is how the ring end gap is finished e.g. for off-set or centered locating pin. There were at one time rings that when compressed had no end gap at all, they completely wrapped around the locating pin.

Thanks for the info... i will measure the thickness when I get back out to the shop.... i saw those Cut but I have purchased from this seller before and the product was good but shipping from Athens took forever! Just thought I might find something in that price range but a little closer. ....i will investigate more once I'm back on a normal computer. ....A little easier than the phone. ...

Dolmar 133 143 IPL http://www.jurec.hr/pdf/dolmar-133s-143.pdf

ring 031132040  is 55mm 1.5mm

ring 031132050 is 55mm  1.2mm      I am betting you can use the husky 390 ring if your 143 has this one.

If you are using a dirt bike ring, make sure it is not chrome coated, because the 143 cylinder is chromed too. You cant use chrome on chrome.
