has anyone been inside one of these?
does it have a similar quality look of p/c as the 8000 model?
does it have the "brain" finish on the piston top?
i've flogged an echo weed-beater for 8 years...... using 1-1/2 tank of fuel at time with zero issues whatsoever.....

I have several Echo weed whackers, Blowers, Hedge trimmers, and a rotor tiller. They have all been perfect.

good to hear that someone else has had good luck with echo.
my weed-beater has an kioritz (spelling?) motor. on the echo usa site, i could not determine if kioritz still makes motors for echos....... some equipment is now produced (or may have been produced, for all i know), in the usa. thats a big plus for me anyway.

the finish seems like it would be a magnet for carbon...... any thoughts? have never seen a piston like that.

Kioritz and Echo are the same for a number years.
I have a Echo 5occ chainsaw engine and the engine says Kioritz on it.

Ive got an early 600p that Ive torn down a couple of times. The cylinder is a closed transfer port type, but not like an 8000. The 8000 has 'tea cup handle style' closed transfers whereas the 600 has 4 closed straight sided transfers like a Dolmar 7900 or Husky 372, which feed from the bottom.
The piston on the 8000 has windows in its sides to accommodate the cup style transfers whereas the 600 piston is straight sided. The case volume is also tight on the 600. They both run well, just different designs.

Haven't had the top end off my 590 yet. But looking through the exhaust port I can tell you it's one of the nicest looking cylinder I've ever seen. That could all change when in dig into her, but I doubt I'll be disappointed. Yes it's a quad transfer design, and it runs well with just a MM. I think it would hand a stock 361 it's ass and may even run with or outrun a 362. She has some weight though, feels like a 7900 honestly. But 400 bucks new is an awesome deal.
The 361 in the video is ported and is a known good runner.

was looking at a 550 initially.
then the echo price caught my interest initially for a larger saw. then 5 year warranty.
...then looked at the quality looking finish of the 8000 cylinder. wish it had the tea-cup quads style trans, but straight closed quad is still a plus. thanks sharkey.
the 361 was even given a thumbs up by most. thanks for the comparison, andyshine.
the only drawback ...the extra weight, would not be much of a concern as i have a smaller 40cc saw.

When you pull the jug, see if you find the rear transfer top outlet partially covered - like its not finished. You will be able to tell when you look at the size of the openings, the rear upper transfer outlet is only about half the size of the forward intake side opening. Im wondering if this is where the power difference is between the different models?

So what is the difference in the Echo 590 600 620 ? Are they all the Shindaiwa designed saws?

I dont know if the 600 is Shin or not. The Echo 680 and 8000 pistons that Ive worked with were made by ART in Japan. The 600 pistons (Echo) that I have here do not have the ART proofmarks so maybe Echo is casting their own these days? The cylinders have the Echo dashes on them for the 600-680-8000. The other crankcase castings have a Jaguar proof mark on them and I dont believe that was Shindaiwa.

Yes it's a Shin based design. Very little difference between the saws. The 590 and 600 appear to have the same top ends. The differences are the handles, plastic on the 590 aluminum on the 600. Rim sprocket on the 600, spur on the 590. The 600 has an Oregon power match bar, the 590 has a laminated bar. The difference in power may come down to the coils, as they have a different part number. The 600 may have a more aggressive advance to it, but the flywheels are the same.

edit: found one today at a real dealer/shop today for $50 less than 'home deep - pockets'. good guy, deals in old wheelhorse tractor parts as well. glad i made the 50 mile round trip!
