Title: seals
Post by: countryhog on May 02, 2014, 09:15:17 pm
i'm hoping this is the correct place to post this. if not please move it. posted this on another site also but after half a day only one guy responded and he said he doesn't know much about it. so........

i have a good number of saws just sitting and waiting for seals. been wondering for a while, now imagonna ask.
when buying AM seals what is the best in regard to:

materials - viton, nitrile, rubber, etc.

lips - single or double

spring - springs or no springs

etc.

its all very confusing to me so some elucidation would be highly appreciated.

Single or double lip will work. Nitrile Buna n is most common for Saws, viton works but would be costly. You need a tension spring to maintain the seal over long term
I've been using TCM Dictomatik brand with good results

thanks much. i noted some seals are coated. is that an issue? or would the coating need to be peeled off before trying to install?

I believe the coated seals have the  metal outer case portion coated (rubberized) I'd stick with the traditional steel shell type
