Title: Husqvarna 235e?
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on May 19, 2014, 08:54:04 am
My brother got one of these at a garage sale, $25 close to new, started right up. However, he went to use the little saw and it would start and run for a couple of minutes, quit and would not start again. Have not seen it or any other example of this saw, as he has not yet brought it to me.

Anyone have any info on problems of this sort on this particular model? Is this something that is chronic on this model? If so, any info on a fix?

chronic carb problems (not issue. problem.). main inlet that feeds the fuel into the bore of the carb likes to fail pretty early on causing overly rich running. to the point the saw may want to stall and flood. no amount of tuning or rebuilding helps. only fix is to replace the carb and hope it doesn't fail as soon.
oiler is also a weak spot.
imo, these aren't worth 25 new in box. the poulan variants are far better and I have no idea why....

RATS! From the IPLs it appears to be a Zama 'Husqvarna 574719402 (replaces 545072601) CARBURETOR (ZAMA) - Ref.'. So what carb is it and does the 9402 PN indicate a different carb?

Thanks BokenBudget, it appears the carb ID is ' 574 71 94 02 C1T-W33C HUSQVARNA CARBURETOR'! So, I guess there is not permanent cure for the problem; except to replace the carb and wait for the new one to fail.
If the carb is the source of the problem, it is surprising that Zama has not cured it. That's BS!

Perhaps get the Poulan version or just give him another saw, I got a 257 that should do the trick!

Maybe the Poulan variant has a different carb.   Maybe the Poulan carb will fit the husky.   Just guessing.

Anyone know the Poulan equivalent saw and carb type?

I think it's the throttle linkage that makes it a bugger to switch out. I haven't tried anything but just the replacement. the poulans use mostly walbro. mostly. ;)

I've changed about 8 or 9 of these in the past 2 years. and maybe if i remember right half of those saws are sitting on the shelf not running again.
i had one go out about 2 months later. that saw got chucked on the fire pit by the owner. told him upfront it wasn't worth the first 80 bucks he payed for the saw at a 'refurbish sale'. then add the $60 for the carb. he wanted it done. it was a Husqvarna! so i says ok fine. warned him about the carb etc. but regardless....
came by later on with a nice new solo 643 to have the muffler modded and tuned properly. that was almost a year ago. he loves that little 643 ;) best $250 he says he ever spent. :)

The poulan pro 3516 I had seemed like a brother saw to the 235. Just 3516 didnt have AV. So might look at that series too.

That's the one.  Same engine.  Different chassis.  Get a new carb.  They seldom cooperate with a rebuild.

Really bad saws that dealers refused to sell, and they soon were discontiued (at least over here).

The 235e likely was the worst of them all.....

I wonder if one could put the top end and intake tract off the Poulan 3316 on it? However that would not cure the throttle linkage problem.

too much work. too much fiddling for little gain. best to throw a new carb on it instead of too many hours. then get rid of it.
or toss it. ;D

That's the best way to go.
