Title: 3700 air filter cover
Post by: jcsmith on May 29, 2014, 09:40:45 am
My 3.7 craftsman  has the solid cover. Was the slotted cover factory installed on all green 3700's?. I was thinking about slotting the cover or drilling a series of holes. On an otherwise stock saw would this be wise, or is it  just a magnet for debris clogging the filter much quicker? Appreciate any input.

the slotted covers seem to keep the airfilter cleaner longer.

I have a two 3400's that came with slotted air filter covers. My Craftsman and Canadian tire models have solid covers.
Both 3700's have slotted covers.
The solid covers take all their air from the hole in the top cover where the spark plug is. If you look at the inside of the air filter cover you will see a comb which would be positioned ahead of the filter where the air enters.
The slotted 3700 type covers do not have this comb and take all their air from the back of the saw through those slots. I think the air filter does stay cleaner as brokenbudget said because the dust sucked through the starter cover can't end up in there.

All the 3700 I have seen have the slotted covers, and they will fit on the other saws of that series like the 3400, and 3800.
I put a slotted cover on my craftsman 3.7 because it had the solid cover.

brokenbudget, thanks for the info, makes sense now after reading fossil's response.

fossil, thanks. Now I know where the dust buildup is coming from.

3000FPS, it seems slotted cover would breathe better as well.

Thanks again fellas.   Chris
