Title: LocTite 603 Maiden Voyage
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on June 10, 2014, 09:09:51 am
Needing to replace the mains in a Dolmar 7900. Which Dolmar specifies should be glued in using LocTite 601.

Having no 601 on hand and learning that LocTite has introduced an improved oil resistant version of their 601 product called 603; I thought I would give it a try. Don't know what is in this stuff but it is green and expensive!

Have cases in the oven and bearings in the freezer, will report back soon!

Tim
where did you source the 603?  Didn't have any here in town so I used the 680 instead. Specs seem very similar...

Actually I got it at the local Timken distributor but I did find it also on Amazon and also here:

It works good but you had BETTER BE QUICK because given the heat of the case 325° the stuff sets up very quickly.

680 went off in about 10 minutes on the chipper repair, works good but not much time to align things!

Does the dolmar 5100 crank bearings recommend this too?  Had seen what seems like alot of turning crank bearings in the 5100 in the past.

Don't have a WM for the 5100S but I'm sure Nate does. Also given that most of Dolmar bearings are C4 fitment it couldn't hurt.

Yes, according to the WM 660 just sent the 5100 also specifies that you heat the case and use LocTite 601 on the bearings. They also tell you to degrease the outer bearing ring before applying the 601. The new produce 603 since it is oil tolerant may not require this step but I did it anyway.

I saw a 5100 a couple years ago that had spun the clutch side bearing. Cut4fun was there too.
