Title: Hey 262xp Check this out
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on July 26, 2014, 04:15:35 pm
This is a cylinder of a Husqvarna 262XP. It does not have a decomp nor does it have a provision for one. It is marked Mahle 48ZK3 or 48ZK8 hard to tell in the picture and is also marked 262 on the casting. You have any information on this that would date the saw, the serial number tag is missing.

Tim, what's the story on that jug?

A guy on FHC bought the entire saw. He posted some pictures of the cylinder. We thought it might be a KS because of no provision for a decomp and 175PSI. The pictures show that it is a Mahle, I was not aware that HVA ever used a Mahle with no decomp on a 262. The 175 PSI is more like what the KS jugs produced, so I am very interested in getting some more info.

OBTW the two Solo 665s should arrive at Adam32 on Monday!

Tim that's interesting.  Wonder what the additional CC volume is from the addition of the decompression valve?   Ran a few Dolmars today with a friend, a couple 7900 race saws and some work port saws. Im fired up to see the 665!!

This other 262 I had had a decomp cylinder. You did alot of work on it Adam. Do you remember who made the cylinder? I sure dont.

other 262xp I had. Pretty sure this one was no decomp with trap door in rear handle.

Date tag on the 262xp with trap door in rear handle.

That fits - it is a 1992 saw, and my memory tells me the decomp didn't come before some time in 1994.

That's an odd one, and doesn't the markings look a little different than Mahle markings usually are?

Of course I haven't seen (or know of) everything, and that one beats me so far....

I only caught the last 5 laps but they were some goooood ones to see.  3 lead changes last 5.

Sadly they edit the races down to one hour here, so I didn't really get how Rosberg lost his initial lead - except that it had something to do with the safety car and the pit stops.

My apologies Niko. Once corrected, never again. Have you come across any info on that cylinder?

I fixed the heading as it should say.  Tim can fix all the others if it wants to remove the wrong spelling. Otherwise it will be like this from here on 262xp.

Thanks Kevin, I had already fixed the others but did not know how or if I could fix the original.

Not a big deal really - but thanks for fixing it!  ;D

No, I have been looking, but haven't found any real info.

It would of couse not be really odd if Husky used non-decomp 262xp cylinders from both KS and Mahle - it is just that I couldn't remember having seen or heard of it before.

More insight into this saws' history. Was run using mineral or vegetable based mix oil. Owner cleaning a thick layer of carbon off the top of the piston discovered the KS logo on the piston. So, we now have a Mahle cylinder and a KS piston! Wonder if that was done at the factory or the KS is a replacement piston. I am not inclined to believe that the piston is a replacement since there is little or no wear on the cylinder liner and the ring end gap is 0.014.

That's interesting.  Haven't seen that 262XP cylinder.

I put a like new Mahl piston in a KS 288XP cylinder (with a new ring) after cleaning transfer out of that jug.  Runs fine.

Aaron the saw is on FHC post by Jon1270. Take a look very interesting deal. Cylinder markings are 'Mahle' but are odd in that they are not the usual markings and no provision for decomp, never have I seen that.

Found it.  Took a bit of searching.  Very interesting saw.

Also saw that Griz has gone WAY off the deep end of manic.  He either needs to lay off the drugs................or up the dosage...

Yes, even Troll has no opinion! How about that.

I mean 16 raving pages to say I bought a new saw, is a bit much.

I knew about them 3-4 or so days ago.  Just not a saw I want or bother with flipping for another 100 apiece. Just not worth it to me. Now I would have got them for someone for cost, but no mark up.  Now maybe a certain beer as a tip  ;D

Lol, not me. Havent bought or sold too many saws lately. Havent had an Ebay store in almost 2 years (where I used to sell).

Seeing you're a swell guy and all, you could have at least picked them up for me at no mark up or was that offer only good on here. I would have even bought ya a beer! :D

And if any of you local guys wanted one of these saws (to keep) but didn't get to them in time, give me a PM on here or FHC before tomorrow evening and we'll figure something out. My prices are just that, asking prices to leave me room for someone to haggle me. I would be more than happy to put one of these in the hands of a local.
Both saws run great, just needed a little tweaking on the carbs, nothing much at all. Real good runners
