Title: Butlers 46
Post by: tessawebb on August 14, 2014, 06:18:53 am
We are having trouble with our Butlers 46 chainsaw but cannot find any information on the web about it.   Can anyone help us find a workshop manual?

I'm sure it's a relabeled brand. I just have no idea who actually built the saw. never heard of the 'butlers' brand before.
are you here in the Americas' or 'over seas'?

what issues are you having with the saw?

Maybe something out of EFCO?  Never heard of Butlers?  Where did you buy this?

What is EFCO?  The chainsaw was left with us when a lodger moved out.   It was working last season.

Is there a data plate anywhere on the saw?

Not as such.   Only a plate saying Butlers 46 and one saying serial number 811250350

Apologies to brokenbudget as I have just seen your post.

We are in England.

It was working last season but not drained of fuel before being put away so guess that's the problem.   It won't start and hubby is warey of dismantling for fear of springs, etc bouncing out.   Hence we were after a manual.

By the way aclarke, it also says 'made in italy' engraved into the body.

tesswebb: no problem on not seeing my post :) I figured you were on the other side of the pond. ;)
I'm wondering if it's maybe an oleo-mac? (a total guess)
I'm certainly not too familiar with the oleo-macs' nor the 'butlers' name brand.
sounds like it needs a bit of a fuel system cleaning and maybe a rebuild of the carb. it's quite easy, and we can talk you through the more challenging bits.
there's a lot of info and loads of very knowledgeable folks here that'll make it very easy to get that saw back up and running.

Thanks for your input and positiveness.

I have emailed oleo-mac and passed message onto hubby who is still a bit scared to take things to bits but, if he does go ahead and get stuck I will certainly be back for more help as the people on this site is amazing.

Thanks brokenbudget and cut4fun for your PM and input.   Hopefully you have **** it for me but I'm still waiting for emak to come back for confirmation and, hopefully, paperwork.

tess: don't hold your breath waiting on them for any manuals. most times they'll just ignore requests like yours.
the carb on that saw is a common one I'm sure. and pulling it off the saw to clean/rebuild it is pretty easy.
if we can get some pictures of the carb, we can tell you what kit you need and walk you through the process of getting that carb back up and happy again.
after that, it's the tuning.... :D

We appreciate your offer and may very well take it up if emak is unhelpful.   I've told hubby (who currently has a touch of lazyitis) and asked him to photo it when he starts work on it - as you suggest.

If any one get a manual for this or the Olympic 950, or olec 945. Please let me know. From what I can find Butler is a West Sussex UK garden quipmeant co, in the past has sales suffice to to badge this saw, mine I just got on eBay waiting on a saw horse. I am after a brake kit, so any link to interchangeable spares appreciated. Robert

Very interesting.  Sure looks like an Oleo-Mac to me.
