Post by: pigpen60 on August 25, 2014, 09:08:01 pm
what's it take to swap a 5100 muffler onto a 5105? the saws new and i'm a wuss, don't want to screw up my new baby! and I definitely don't want to take it to the dealer.

I bought a new 5105 in 2010 and Immediately installed a 5100 muffler on it. Though the mufflers are made different, it is a straight change over. I used the old gasket and heat shield.

I don't know where you live but I just called the local Dolmar dealer and he had the muffler for me the next morning at 11AM.

The big distributor for my area is only 70 mi away.

There are not any after market mufflers available for the 5100. There might be some used ones on the Internet?

All three of my 5105's have had their mufflers changed out. I didn't really notice a big change in performance, but there was a HUGE change in heat..ALOT LESS!!  Also the 5100 mufflers are lighter in weight.  It's a very easy swap.

MY 5 of 5100's are all gutted and MM'd they run a lot cooler louder too.  Highly recommend swapping out the Cat muffler.  Cheap insurance.  Don't forget to retune after the swap.
