Title: Husky 44 Coil 1984-01 thru 1988-08
Post by: farmboy on July 31, 2011, 09:43:19 pm
Husky 44 1984-01 thru 1988-08.
Coil PN: 501-5972-01 w/505-3255-39 Trigger module
501-5972-01 RB: 503-8322-01 (44-444)
503-8322-01 RB: 506-0272-07 (254-257-261-262-51-55)
506-0272-01 RB: 544-0183-01

The diagram #106 76 42-98 shows 44 and 444
I have a diagram that was in the coil box PN: 503-8322-01 that shows cutting off the wire that goes to trigger 505-3255-39 and discontinue trigger then use 503-8322-01 coil.  I tried to scan the diagram into computer but scan function would not work.  Anyway to use the Husky 55 coil PN: 544-0183-01 you will have to elongate the rear holddown screw slot to get enough adjustment.  This was determined by visual comparison as I have all the above PN's.  The coil in the box 503-8322-01 is a 506-0272-07.  I compared it to another 506-0272-07 the difference was an extra rear coil mounting hole.  506-0272-07 replaced by 544-0183-01.

Shep,
I have a 44 with no spark. The original coil is no longer available from dealers.
Thanks for you post, but I didn't fully understand. Are you saying I can replace the existing coil with an alternative ?
Which is the alternative please ?
Do I still need the trigger unit ?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

I have new and used coils.  What year model is your 44.  Need serial number to determine which coil.

Thanks Shep
I think I bought it in about 1988, I traded it for a used 85cc saw and I was so much better off !

Serial # 8050105

The label is a bit damaged, but I think the 3rd number is a "5"
Do you think I need the coil and that little control module as well ?

Thanks,  Bob

I really appreciate your help on this. My "44" maybe getting old, but I really like it, and I'd hate to lose it.
I noticed I don't live too far from you - Greenville SC. Maybe I could come up this weekend to get the bits ?
Thanks,
Bob

I know this is an old thread but I'm interested in the idea of using a 55 coil on my 44 and eliminating the trigger as indicated above.

Have I understood your post correctly?

According to the diagram I have Yes.  You have to IIRC drill another hole in coil windings.  Haven't tried it but it diagram came from Husky.

Thanks, my 44 has just been cleaned up so it may not have the fault that the PO stated.  That it dies when it get hot.  The saw was very heavily gunked up with saw cake. I'll tidy up the chain and see how it goes before pursuing the swap.
